IGP Olatunji Disu Promises Improved Security During Visit To Gov Abdulrazaq In Ilorin
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on Monday received the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Olatunji Ridwan Disu at the Government House, Ilorin.
The police chief was on a working visit to the state and this has shown a renewed commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating crimes in collaboration with other state actors.
Addressing journalists after his meeting with the governor, the IGP said he was on an operational visit to the state with a focus on strengthening public safety.
Having led a special task force on clearance operations in the state a few weeks ago, Disu said he is aware of the challenges in Kwara State while assuring Nigerians, particularly residents of Kwara State that the police will live up to the expectations of the citizens.
‘Don’t forget that about a month ago, I was in Kwara State leading a Police component of the Clearance Operation that took place here in Kwara.
So, I’m aware of the situation in Kwara, I’m aware of all the arrests made, I’m also aware of the present situation that we have.
I have come here today to see my officers to encourage them, most especially to see the governor and thank him for the wonderful things he has been doing for officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
I want to assure Nigerians that the police are waking up to their responsibilities to prevent the breakdown of laws and orders. We are ready to do that’ he said.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com that the IGP was accompanied by several senior police officers, including the Commissioner of Police (Kwara) Adekimi Ojo.
Heads of security agencies in the state including the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Michael Oganwu were also there.
Spokesperson for the state police command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, a Superintendent of Police, in separate statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com submitted that the Inspector General of Police began his nationwide operational tour in Kwara State on Monday while noting that he had made the State of Harmony his first port of call because of his most recent operational engagement in the state shortly before his appointment as the nation’s police chief.
The head of Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr Adekimi Ojo, a Commissioner of Police, heads of security agencies in the state, Senior Officers, Government Officials, The POWA Chairperson, Kwara State chapter and distinguished stakeholders were according to Toun at the Gen. Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin to receive the IGP.
Addressing officers and stakeholders at the State Police Command Headquarters in Ilorin, the IGP noted that his recent operational experience in the state influenced his decision to commence the tour there.
‘During the visit, the IGP held strategic engagements with serving and retired police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, and other critical stakeholders. He carefully listened to concerns regarding prevailing security challenges within the state and reassured the gathering of his firm commitment to strengthening the security architecture to effectively combat criminal elements threatening peace and stability.
Demonstrating his proactive leadership approach, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu psc(+), NPM immediately proceeded on an on-the-spot operational assessment of identified flashpoints across the state. His visit commenced with Kaiama in Kaiama Local Government Area, recently affected by attacks from bandits. The IGP visited the Emir of Kaiama, where he was received by HRH, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, Bagidi kiyaru IV, District Heads, members of the Emirate Council, Senior Police Officers, representatives of security agencies and government officials.
While interacting with community leaders and other stakeholders in the area, the IGP assured them of his determination to deploy the necessary resources and operational support to the Kwara State Police Command to enhance its capacity in tackling banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminality.
