An eye specialist, Azeez Amuda Olayinka, has emphasized the need for people to keep their eyes healthy by eating a well-balanced diet.
He also emphasized the need for extra care and good maintenance of the eyes noting that eating healthy foods cannot be ignored when it comes to eyecare.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Olayinka, who is popularly called ‘Baba Oloju’, gave the important tips for maintaining good eyesight while speaking during the health talk programme organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara state Council in Ilorin,on Tuesday.

He added that providing needed nutrients for the body and ensuring a good eyesight does not always require ‘expensive’ foods.
“As humans, there are ways to care for our eyes by ensuring that we eat healthy foods. We don’t need to buy expensive supermarket foods to get the nutrients but local food items in the market can help get your body and eyes to function properly.
Palm oil, Pawpaw and Carrot which are not that expensive are very rich in ‘Vitamin A’ and highly recommended for maintaining a good eyesight’ he said.
The ophthalmologist also cautioned against visiting quack doctors for eyecare and glasses, submitting that many people had ignorantly damaged their eyes through this.
‘It is not advisable to visit roadside medicine stores and pharmacies anytime you have issues with your eyes. They are not experts, and this could lead to wrong recommendation of drugs that would lead to further damage of your eyes.
It is also very damaging to apply Kanfo in the name of getting rid of Apollo. Many people have unknowingly lost their eyes through this treatment. Similarly, applying breast Milk, most especially among nursing mothers is also very condemnable and can lead to eye problems for the child’ the eye specialist added.
He however advised that people should always read in a well-lit environment and take a rest for like two to three minutes after reading for an hour.
Recall that the Correspondents’ Chapel had on Monday announced ‘full schedule’ for its 2024 Press Week.
