I’m Sad That My Parents Have Been Sent To Prison Coz Of Me- Sonia Ekweremadu

Sonia, daughter of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has commented on the decision of an Old Bailey jury to send her parents to prison.

It will be recalled that the senator had landed himself right in the soup because of Sonia.

The senator and his wife, Beatrice were arrested for trafficking a 21-year-old man to the United Kingdom to provide a kidney for  their daughter  in  June 2022.

 Ekweremadu, 60, his wife, Beatrice, 56, and Dr Obinna Obeta, 51,   were sent to prison on Friday.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison, his wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu was jailed for four years and six months due to her more limited involvement while Dr Obeta would spend 10 years behind bars.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned 25-year-old Sonia in an interview with BBC on Friday, said she felt very sad that her parents would be behind bars because they had tried to come to her rescue.

 ‘I don’t think it will ever be the same again. And obviously, I feel guilty because I feel like all these have happened because of me’ she said.

Sonia also promised that going forward , she would be providing support for kidney disease patients.

‘My main focus is to try to help, specifically people with kidney conditions. This is just to show them they don’t need to be scared.

I will continue to support my parents and siblings as well’ she submitted.

Sonia also said her parents were calm and had taken the unfortunate development in their stride.

 ‘They are quite calm, surprisingly. But I can’t really speak about what they are feeling. This is just from an outside perspective of me seeing them. They are okay, they are just neutral.

Life is just some dynamic. Like you’re one day in your house chilling and the next day your whole life is turned around, upside down’ she said.

Sonia has also submitted that she disagrees with the court ruling.

‘It’s sad. It’s been really hard to wrap my head around it. I understand the conviction. Personally, I disagree with it; however, that’s from a very biased perspective as their daughter, and I would obviously back my parents.
