Impeachment Plot: My Deputy Raised False Alarm Coz He’s Planning To Leave PDP For APC-Gov Obaseki

Impeachment Plot: My Deputy Raised False Alarm Coz He’s Planning To Leave PDP For APC-Gov Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, on Monday said there was no impeachment plot against his deputy,  Mr Philip Shaibu noting that the steps taken by  the deputy governor to  seek a court order that would not allow the state House of Assembly to get him impeached was unnecessary.

Obaseki alleged that Shuaib had only done this because he ‘is planning to leave PDP for APC’.

Obaseki and Shuaib were political godsons of Senator Adams Oshiomole but they parted ways ahead of the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election.

Oshiomole ,who was then the APC National Chairman, had ensured that the governor was disqualified and stopped from getting renominated while Osagie Ize-Iyamu got the mandate to run on the party’s ticket.

Obaseki left the APC for PDP in June 2020 and his deputy, who is Oshiomole’s kinsman, also followed suit.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Governor Obaseki told journalists in Benin City during the visit of  Edo North leaders to the Government House on Monday  that the deputy governor has been holding meetings with APC bigwigs both at the national and state levels.

‘Let me put it on record that I am not aware of any plot or any scheme to impeach the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu. I have also checked and there was no such  a plan.

So, the court action taken, for me, is a thing of shock and disappointment. I am trying to reflect on the move made by somebody that I have given a broad latitude to do his work as deputy governor. So, for him to take this kind of action is shocking’ he said.

Obaseki  also said Shaibu has never discussed his governorship ambition with him.

‘The last time we spoke of my successor after the House of Assembly election, I did say that we should be patient and that our task is to try and finish well and conclude all our projects we started. It’s only when we do this right that we will have the support of the people for my successor.

I believe that this action by him is a preemptive move to get a court order, keep his seat and move to another party. I think it’s unfair for our party. We don’t need this sort of crisis. I have been getting calls all over the world and it’s rather sad that somebody who is part of an administration will do this to the administration because of his personal ambition’ he added.

The governor added that  he was  though not angry but added that ‘ naturally I should be disappointed’-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme? Kindly send SMS to 08059100286, 09094171980. Thank you
