PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar , PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Alhaji Sule Lamido and other party bigwigs attended the defection ceremony organized to receive Senator Ibrahim Shekerau and his supporters into the PDP in Kano on Monday .
Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, a one-time governor of Kano state, had at different times enjoyed membership of the ANPP, APC and the PDP.
He had before the 2019 General Election left the PDP for APC , Shekerau got the Kano Central APC senate nomination and he eventually won the senate election.
Following the intraparty conflict in the Kano state APC, Shekerau had defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
It later became clear however that the relationship between Shekerau and the NNPP presidential candidate, former senator Rabiu Kwankwaso had gotten strained.
Kano state PDP Chairman , Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi had on Saturday disclosed that Shekarau had accepted to return to the PDP.
‘Alhamdulillah, finally, we now have a leader in Kano and I am delighted. Shekarau, being the highest political office holder as provided by the constitution, has accepted and we have welcomed him back to our dear party, the PDP.
All arrangements are in top gear in preparation to receive Atiku Abubakar, who will be in Kano on Sunday, hopefully to receive Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau into the party.
We have accepted to follow him and we shall succeed, God willing’ he had said.
