Insecurity: Kwara Youth Group Gives Gov Abdulrazaq 24 Hours Ultimatum To Lead The Charge
A youth group, the Kwara Alternative, on Sunday issued an ultimatum demanding that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq should lead the charge and make a strong effort to tackle insecurity in the State of Harmony within 24 hours.
At the press conference held by the group in GRA, Ilorin which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com, the Kwara Alternative lamented worsening security situation in the state while blaming the state police command and the state government for allegedly failing to attach importance to the intelligence report that had revealed that Zamfara bandits had in March this year regrouped in Bani, Kaiama LGA, after being flushed out by ‘military offensive’.
The group has also called for a probe into this allegation while a punitive measure should be taken in respect of those who were allegedly responsible for the inaction.
‘Recently, Lafiagi came under attack twice within 24 hours. Babanla, another village in Kwara was overrun— Local hunters did their best, they fought alone, with low level weapons, while state forces vanished. In Patigi, the PDP Ward Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun and his 22-year-old son were killed. Another victim, Timothy Paul, also killed in cold blood. A 12-year-old girl abducted and unaccounted for. Communities in Patigi were asked to raise ₦200 million or face repeat terror. In Oloruntele, ransom included ₦10 million, 30 litres of petrol, and 30 litres of engine oil. Towns like Oke-Ode, Oreke, Shagbe, and Share are now shadows—emptied by fear, ruled by silence’ the group lamented.
Kwara Alternative has however threatened that ‘If insecurity persists and leadership remains absent, we will mobilize the masses and shut down Ilorin in a historic peaceful protest’ while also hitting out at those who were referred to as ‘Kwara North advocates’, who have allegedly looked the other way whilst farms are being destroyed and people are getting killed because of ‘political ambitions’ that are ‘stained with blood’.
The group also called for the establishment of ‘Kwara State Security and Victim Relief Fund’ to support hunters, victims, and the affected communities while making a 7-point demand to address insecurity in the state.
‘We, members of the Kwara Alternative declare that ‘enough is enough’ and we present the following demands to His Excellency, Gov AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq:
1. Governor AbdulRazaq must return fully to Kwara within 24 hours and physically lead the fight against insecurity, not from Abuja, but here, in Kwara.
2. If insecurity persists and leadership remains absent, we will mobilize the masses and shut down Ilorin in a historic peaceful protest.
3.Military and tactical security forces must be deployed immediately to Patigi, Kaiama, Edu, Ifelodun, and Moro local governments.
4. A Kwara State Security and Victim Relief Fund must be created, funded and directed to support hunters, victims, and affected communities.
5. A live, unfiltered public address by the governor must be broadcast, with clear strategy, timelines, and accountability.
6. A judicial probe into the suppression of March intelligence must begin immediately. We want names. We want consequences.
7. And the Federal Government must declare a State of Emergency on Security in Kwara State’.
The group urged every Kwaran to ‘rise, speak, and act’ and while noting that the current situation requires a ‘voiced anger’.
‘We urge market women, farmers, students, civil servants, artisans, elders, and youths: Do not keep quiet. Do not be intimidated. Do not die in silence. Bad leadership thrives when good people whisper. Let your voices shake the system. Let your action send a message. Let your anger birth accountability’ the group added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme?
