
PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar , who is also the owner of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) , a private university in Yola , Adamawa state capital, has disclosed that he had never spent the money made by the institution on personal things but rather had such reinvested.
This, he noted, was done to ensure the expansion and improvement of the university and the subsidiary schools to maintain a world-class status.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the former Vice President disclosed this at the weekend during the School Improvement Project presentation and Alumni fundraising dinner organized by the American University of Nigeria as part of the activities marking its 20th anniversary.
Educational institutions owned by Atiku in Yola include the Academy (Nigerian and British track), the Charter School (American track), and the Elementary and Early Learning Center (pre-school cadres).
Atiku, his wife, Mrs. Amina Titi Abubakar, parents, alumni , business elites and entrepreneurs attended the dinner held in Abuja where funds were raised for the Schools’ three-phase infrastructure and ICT upgrade.
The former vice president was honoured with an award during the event in recognition of his vision that led to the establishment of the AUN Schools 20 years ago and his unwavering commitment to developing education in Nigeria.
Atiku said he established the educational institutions to provide young people with access to quality education and to give back to society .
‘I have always held the unwavering conviction that education is the key to success in life and must be accorded top priority at all levels’ he said.
‘We have reached a point in our lives where we feel obliged to contribute to the field of education. You can always count on me to make education accessible and available to every child in Nigeria. This is my promise’ he added.
In her opening remarks, the Deputy Director of AUN Schools, Hajia Asma’u Atiku Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the Founder for his selflessness and generosity, which had made the 20- year journey of the educational institutions possible.
While noting that students had gained from the Schools’ excellent foundation in knowledge and character, Asma’u added that the AUN Schools had also produced and nurtured some of the country’s most brilliant and successful human resources.
