‘Jerry Boy’ Jeremiah Useni Dies At 82…Plateau Gov Praises His ‘Legacy Of Compassion, Generosity’

Jeremiah Useni,  a retired General, and a former senator, is dead.

He died on Thursday at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that his death was announced on Thursday night by Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State .

Governor Mutfwang in a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere. described Useni’s passing as a tremendous loss to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation as a whole.

He praised Useni’s exemplary leadership, commitment to service, and tireless efforts to promote peace and security, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State.

‘The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, deeply regrets to announce to the citizens of Plateau State and all patriotic Nigerians, the passing of the former minister.

Governor Mutfwang praises the illustrious career of the late General, who served Nigeria with distinction in various capacities, including as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.

After retiring from the military, General Useni transitioned into politics, where he continued his service to the nation. He served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was elected as Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’ the statement said.

The governor commended General Useni’s life of selfless service recognizing his profound contribution to the military, politics, and community while emphasizing that his legacy of compassion, kindness, generosity, and dedication to the well-being of others will endure in the lives of those he impacted.

‘On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend my deepest sympathies to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the immediate family, and all those mourning the loss of this distinguished elder statesman’ Governor Mutfwang said.

Jeremiah Timbut Useni aka Jerry Boy was born in Langtang, Plateau State in 1943.

The retired General at different times served as Military Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Minister for Transport and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, but he however gained more prominence while serving as FCT minister during the military government headed by late General Sani Abacha.
