The Senate held a confirmation hearing for Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on Wednesday during which she declared that all pre-election matters must be concluded at the Court of Appeal.
‘All pre-election matters will terminate at the Court of Appeal. I have zero tolerance for corruption’ she said.
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun is the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria and the second female CJN in the country.
Kekere-Ekun , who was born on May 7, 1958, in London, United Kingdom, has also promised zero-tolerance for corruption.
The confirmation hearing was sequel to the letter sent to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu, which was read out during the plenary session by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday.
Kekere-Ekun has served in an acting capacity since August, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
President Tinubu, in his letter to the Senate, cited Section 231(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, which authorizes him to appoint a Chief Justice based on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, subject to Senate confirmation.
‘I hereby forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, CON, for confirmation as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
I trust that this request will receive the Senate’s prompt consideration and approval’ he submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
