Kano : 24-Year-Old Woman Who Stabbed House help To Death Remanded In Custody
The Chief Magistrates’ Court , Kano, on Wednesday, ordered that 24-year-old Hafsat Surajo should be remanded in a correctional centre.
Hafsat is facing charges that include attempt to commit suicide and culpable homicide.
She has been accused of stabbing her house help, Nafiu Hafizu, to death.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the defendant, who lives in Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, was trying to commit suicide when her house help , Nafiu made an attempt to stop her from doing this and she stabbed him in the process.
Chief Magistrate Hadiza Abdulrahman ordered that Hafizat should be remanded in a correctional centre while adjourning the matter until February 1, 2024 for further mention.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Lamido Sorondinki, had submitted that on December 20, 2023, the defendant held a sharp knife and attempted to commit suicide and in the process, cut herself on her left hand.
‘In the process the defendant used the said sharp knife to stab Nafiu in the chest and other parts of his body which led to his death’ Sorondinki added.
The defendant though pleaded guilty to the first charge but however pleaded not guilty to the second charge.
In the meanwhile, Hafsat’s husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, is also facing charges and he has been accused of concealing fact in respect of the murder of Nafiu.
He is facing charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, concealment of fact and false information.
The prosecution counsel, Sorondinki alleged that on December 20, 2023, the defendants conspired with one Haruna Adamu now at large and concealed the cause of Nafiu’s death.
‘The defendants misled and gave false information to the deceased house help’s family by saying he died as a result of pile surgery’ he said.
Dayyabu denied committing the offence.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 277 and 178 of the Penal Code.
The defence counsels, Rabiu Sidi and Rabiu Abdullahi, urged the court to grant Dayyabu bail pursuant to Section 36(5) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended and Sections 168 and 172 of ACJL 2019 Kano state.
The judge however ordered that the defendant should be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter until January 8, 2024, for mention-Team@orientactualmags.com
