Kano Assembly Begins Impeachment Proceedings Against ‘Very Uncooperative’ Deputy Governor
Kano State House of Assembly has begun impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Abdulsalam and allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust have been leveled against him.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that 38 out of 40 members of the house of assembly raised the allegations in a notice that was presented by the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Dala during plenary session on Thursday which was later read out by Speaker Ismail Falgore.
The state lawmakers cited Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution, which allows a state legislature to initiate impeachment proceedings against a deputy governor who has been accused of gross misconduct.
‘The misuse of official capacity to confer undue advantage constitutes abuse of power and it is contrary to the obligations of public office.
Based on the foregoing allegations, we hereby resolve that His Excellency, Aminu Abdussalam, the Deputy Governor of Kano State should be impeached and removed from office in accordance with the provisions of Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’ Hon Dala said.
Speaker Falgore subsequently directed that Abdulsalam should be formally served the notice in line with constitutional procedures.
Political pundits said the Deputy Governor is being ‘punished’ for being ‘recalcitrant’ and ‘uncooperative’.
Recall that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had in January this year left NNPP for APC while the Deputy Governor had not only refused to follow suit but also declared his continued loyalty to Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Hon Ibrahim Waiya had a few days later said it is important for the Deputy Governor to consider voluntary resignation having refused to join Governor Abba Yusuf in leaving NNPP for APC.
‘This is his personal decision, but there is no way someone who is no longer with you should be part of the routine council meeting.
Who knows with whom he might share important government secrets? In government, things are done based on trust, and you can’t trust someone who is not with you’ the commissioner had submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
