Kano NNPP Transition Committee Cautions LG Chairmen Against Misuse Of Public Funds
Kano state NNPP Gubernatorial Transition Committee has warned chairmen and other officials of local governments in the state against misuse of public funds.
Ab Baffa Bichi in a statement issued on Thursday warned the chairmen of the 44 Local Governments in the state against making funds belonging to their respective councils available for the use of their party ahead of the supplementary elections in some federal constituencies in Kano and other states.
‘We advise them not to allow themselves to be used, again, as conduits for siphoning public funds to finance the forthcoming supplementary elections in some states and federal constituencies of the state; and we further advise them to operate strictly in accordance with all the relevant financial regulations and extant guidelines.
This advisory is made in the public interest, please’ the statement noted.
Chairman , Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano state , Bappa Muhammad had since called the allegations ‘spurious’ while urging the committee not to heat up the polity.
‘The attention of ALGON , Kano state has been drawn to a ‘Public Advisory No.3’ issued in the above titled and signed by AB Baffa Bichi, alleging that Local Government Chairmen are planning to siphon off public funds to finance the forthcoming supplementary elections of State and Federal constituencies in the state.
Spurious allegations of this nature are common whenever there is a change in the baton of leadership, numerous examples abound’ he said
