Kauran Gwandu: Two Years of Impactful Leadership In Kebbi State-Yahaya Sarki

RURAL AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
To drive grassroots development, the Ministry of Rural and Community Development was created. In two years, over 40 transformers—ranging from 500KVA to 2.5MVA—were installed across villages and urban areas to improve power supply.
Upgrades were completed in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Bagudo, Zuru, Fakai, and Kalgo LGAs. The Idris administration is committed to sustaining these efforts and bringing development to every part of the state.
MINISTRY OF DIGITAL ECONOMY :
Key achievements include the upgrade of the state website to e-Governance standards and deployment of digital services like the Kebbi Internal Revenue Portal, KEBGIS for land management, the E-Procurement Platform, and the KIPA Portal. The Equity News Magazine was also launched to promote transparency.
More than 500 government officials have been trained in e-Governance, while MDA staff have received technical training in e-procurement, data protection, and digital tools. Robotics labs and STEM education were also introduced to 183 children.
Furthermore, 250 youths and women were trained in software development, graphic design, digital marketing, and data science. The Ministry has effectively positioned Kebbi as a key player in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND CULTURE :
The Ministry of Information and Culture serves as the government’s mouthpiece, responsible for propagating and enlightening the public on government’s activities and policies.
The two major government-owned broadcast stations, Kebbi Radio and Kebbi Television, have received unprecedented support and attention from the current administration in the state. This support has ensured not only their survival but also their operational efficiency and impact.
Prior to the advent of the current administration, the two stations were in an almost comatose state. Recognizing the vital role of information dissemination in governance and in bridging the gap between the government and the people, the administration has equipped Kebbi TV with modern studio and professional cameras, along with other broadcast equipment. Similar upgrades were made for Kebbi Radio, aligning both stations with the demands of the digital age.
To further inform the public and showcase the state’s potential on both national and international stages, the government signed retainership agreements with major national television stations including Channels Television, TVC, and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
CULTURE :
The government of Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, places a high premium on culture as a unifying force, a means of fostering brotherhood, and a driver of peace in society. Culture is also being utilized as a platform for economic development.
Kebbi State has actively participated in cultural events both locally and nationally, particularly in Abuja and Lagos. The Idris administration has sustained the four major cultural and tourism festivals in the state through funding, support, and encouragement.
The annual Yauri Regatta has been hosted twice, and the Uhola Festival in Zuru has also been staged successfully for two consecutive years under this administration. Additionally, the government funded the revived maiden edition of the Gwandu Horse Racing Festival, which is now scheduled to become an annual event. Preparations are already underway for the 2026 edition of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, which is expected to be grand and investment-friendly for both local and international stakeholders.
POLITICAL UNITY AND STABILITY IN KEBBI STATE UNDER KAURAN GWANDU
Kebbi State has enjoyed unprecedented political unity and stability under Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu’s leadership. The state can be likened to China in its political alignment, with near-unified support under one party system.
Governor Idris’ leadership style has attracted key political figures from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and made them defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Among these are prominent allies of Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, such as his elder brother Alhaji Abba Aliero, Alhaji Bello Doya, and Alhaji Yakaji Zuru, among others across the 21 LGAs.
Significantly, all three senators elected under the PDP in the 2023 elections—Senators Adamu Aliero, Garba Maidoki, and Yahaya Abdullahi—have defected to the APC. These defections marked a decisive turning point, essentially signaling the end of PDP’s political relevance in the state.
As a testament to the peaceful coexistence and political inclusiveness in Kebbi, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state declared its full support for Governor Idris. The declaration was made during a Sallah homage to the Governor at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
IPAC Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad, commended the Governor for promoting democracy by ensuring free and fair local government elections with participation from multiple political parties. He also praised the administration’s achievements in infrastructure development, welfare of workers, and inclusive governance.
OTHER INTERESTING POINTS ABOUT THE KAURAN GWANDU ADMINISTRATION
The Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu administration, is a strategic blend of experienced elders and energetic youths, with the majority being young people who have demonstrated leadership capacity. Women are also well-represented, serving as Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries, and political aides.
The Idris administration has appointed over 6,000 political aides, demonstrating its commitment to inclusivity, opportunity, and participatory governance.
Behind every successful man is a supportive partner. Governor Idris’ wives, Hajiya Zainab Nasare and Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, play significant roles through their respective foundations—Nasare Foundation and NANA’s Foundation. These foundations provide support for orphans, people with disabilities, widows, and children. They also empower women with skills and financial assistance to promote self-reliance and economic independence. Kudos and congratulations Your Excellency Sir-Mr Yahaya Sarki, who is Governor Nasir Idris’ Special Adviser on Media, writes from Birni Kebbi, Kebbi State
