KCDI And NCRI Plan To Encourage Young Kwarans To Pursue Careers In Agriculture Through KYFC

A partnership between the Kwara Citizenship Development Initiative (KCDI), an initiative of Engineer  Sunday Babalola  and  the  National Cereals Research Institute( NCRI)  which is intended to create a platform that will have young people in the State of Harmony encouraged to get involved in agriculture has given birth to the Kwara Young Farmers Club.

The Kwara Young Farmers Club is a post- JICA Research Fellowship Action Project of  Abioye Mumeen which focused on  reorientating young school children on agricultural perception and general impressions about farming and the farmers.

The club will train Junior Secondary school students on opportunities in farming and the numerous benefits it brings to society as well as national development.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com quoted  Abioye Mumeen  to have submitted that the Kwara Young Farmers Club would redirect the focus of young  people from over dependence on white collar jobs.

The researcher in question,  who recently returned to the country after an intensive fellowship programme in Japan, described the project as a way of applying knowledge gained to solve problem and add value to nation’s economy.

The statement also noted that the  club project that  will begin  by May 2024 is being implemented in collaboration with the National Cereals Research Institute (NCRI), Kwara Citizenship Development Initiative( KCDI), Japan International Cooperation Agency( JICA-Nigeria) and the Kwara Tabloid Media.

‘The broad objective is to drive improved national productivity through agricultural entrepreneurship by younger generations of Nigeria. This will ignite passion of and catch the younger generation of Nigerians into the agricultural value chain using the instrumentation of collective engagement and club activities’ Buoye said.

He also said 4 high schools in the 3 senatorial districts in the state will be used as pilot projects while listing them to include; Government Secondary School, Panada, Ilorin East LGA, Etsu Abdullahi Government High School, Bacita Village, Edu LGA, Government Secondary School, Gwanara, Baruten LGA and Government Secondary School, Omu- Aran, Irepodun LGA.
