Kebbi Environment Commissioner Says ‘Reintroduced’ Monthly Sanitation Exercise ‘ll Be Sustained

The monthly  sanitation exercise that was recently reintroduced by Kebbi state Government would be sustained to promote good hygiene practices  and ensure a clean environment in the state.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the state Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Musa Muhammad Tungulawa gave this assurance while talking to journalists shortly before  taking to Birnin Kebbi streets alongside with others to create awareness about the reintroduced sanitation exercise.

The Commissioner , the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, top management staff as well as other employees, were among those who   held the awreness rally called  ‘clean the streets’  and they were also accompanied by a Mobile Court comprising a Judge who showed readiness to try violators of the sanitation law.

The Commissioner noted that Governor Nasir Idris has introduced new innovations to the current exercise by placing premium on sensitization and mobilization of the citizens to imbibe the spirit of cleanliness before the prosecution of offenders.

‘Governor Nasir Idris wants to complement the beautification of the structures in the state capital by mobilizing the citizenry to keep and sustain  a clean environment.

We have allowed vehicular and human movement, taking into cognizance the present economic and security situation in the country, but we have made it mandatory that all households and shop owners must clean their premises as required’ the Commissioner said.

He cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse particularly inside drainages which, he noted, constitutes an offence.

‘The Ministry of Environment desires additional legislation that will compel all owners of houses, business premises and those building new homes, to demarcate certain portion of their abodes as private refuse dump without resorting to throwing refuse anywhere’ he said.

Musa Tungulawa added that the Ministry would work towards the enactment of such a law.
