Kebbi Law Reform Commission Chairman Commends Gov Idris For Promoting Justice, Rule Of Law

Kebbi Law Reform Commission Chairman Commends Gov Idris For Promoting Justice, Rule Of Law

The Chairman of  Kebbi state Law Reform Commission, retired Justice Isma’ila Haruna Rasheed , has attributed the revival of the law Reform Commission in the state to Governor Nasir Idris, the Kauran Gwandu’s commitment to justice and the rule of law.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki  noted that Justice Ismail Haruna Rasheed said this on Friday when he paid homage to the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar to seek  royal blessings and prayers for the success of the activities of the commission in the state.

He was accompanied by  the Secretary and Commissioners of the commission.

Justice Ismail Haruna Rasheed said successive administrations in  the state had  relegated ‘Law reform’ to the abyss until the emergence of   Dr. Nasir Idris,  the Kauran Gwandu as governor of the state.

Idris , he added, had  realized the importance of reappraising domestic laws to suit our present needs which  made him reenergize the Law Reform Commission to carry out its mandate.

Justice Isma’ila said, ‘Only THE LAWS OF GOD are final and unchangeable, other man- made laws including the Constitution require relevant amendments as humanity progresses in life.

Some of our laws are inherited from the colonial masters and some from the First Republic , others were enacted several years afterwards, including criminal and civil laws, that have become obsolete and in need of reform and amendment’..

He also  made it clear that such a task could not be possible without the support and cooperation of Traditional Rulers, Religious Clerics and  lawmakers.

He told the monarch that Governor Nasir Idris appointed him as the head of the Commission in his capacity as retired Judge of the High Court versed in judicial matters, while the Secretary is a qualified Lawyer with other members as technocrats in their various fields of specialization.

‘The governor mandated that I should enjoy all the rights and privileges of a serving judge including operational vehicle and accommodation while the Secretary should be on equal footing as a permanent secretary’ Justice Isma’ila said.

Speaking earlier, Muhammadu Bawale Sakaba, who is the Shatiman Sakaba and one of the Commissioners, commended Governor Nasir Idris for bringing rapid development to Kebbi state in all sectors,  particularly the massive infrastructural construction ongoing in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.

Responding, the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman, Kebbi state Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar  emphasized the importance of implementing the necessary law reform of the nation’s statutes to conform with present realities in the country.

He described the rule of law as an essential ingredient of peaceful and decent society without which rancour and lawlessness would take precedence.

‘There are laws of Local Governments, State Governments and the Federal Government, but the world has gone far ahead that made it incumbent to review such laws to suit modern realities of life’ he submitted.

Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar advised Judges and those entrusted with the dispensation of justice, to  employ intelligence and foresight in adjudicating matters to temper justice with mercy.

The Emir was emphatic that the task of the members of the Law Reform Commission is enormous and burdensome which requires patience, perseverance and high degree of intelligence to succeed.

Members of the Kebbi state Law Reform Commision who were at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace are Muhammad Bawale-Shettimam Sakaba, Yusuf Usman Mukhtar, Muhammad Sani Madaucin-Zuru, Hajiya Shafa Bala Halilu and Barrister Ahmad Rufa’i Aminu, Secretary-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
