Kebbi NUJ Distributes Food Items, Cash To Families Of Deceased Members, Chapels In Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has sustained its tradition of supporting families of deceased members through the provision of food items and financial assistance.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Governor Nasir Idris’ Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted that 22 bags of rice (25kg) and the sum of one million naira were distributed to families of the deceased members during the event held at the premises of Kebbi State Television, Birnin Kebbi, on March 24, 2025.
Additionally, each of the six NUJ chapels also received two bags of rice (15kg) and N80,000.
Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Hon. Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, commended the NUJ for sustaining this laudable initiative, which was started 10 years ago.

He assured that the state government would step in to support and expand the programme in future editions.
‘When you talk about the welfare and development of journalists, it brings me great joy’ he said.
Hon. Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi further expressed his desire to work closely with the NUJ to make subsequent editions even more impactful, encouraging the union to engage both governmental and non-governmental organizations for additional support.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the ‘palliative’ distribution efforts of the Governor Nasir Idris administration, which has provided food assistance to thousands of people across the state.
He restated the state government’s commitment to ensuring greater support for the NUJ in future editions.
Also speaking, Governor Nasir’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki, commended the NUJ for maintaining this legacy of care and support.
He emphasized that the programme reflects the broader humanitarian efforts of the Kebbi State Government under Governor Nasir Idris.
He pledged personal support alongside the Chief Press Secretary in the next edition.
In his remarks, Chairman of the state NUJ, Comrade Bello Sarki Abubakar, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting the families of deceased members, an initiative introduced by former chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Jajirma.
He highlighted the contributions of various donors, including Alhaji Umar Idris Buro, Engineer Rilwanu Usman of Ganou Rice Farm, Labana Rice, and the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, among others.
Comrade Bello Sarki announced that each of the 22 benefitting families would receive bag of rice (25kg) and N10,000, while each NUJ chapel would receive N80,000 and two bags of rice (15kg) as ‘Ramadan and Sallah package’.
He extended appreciation to the Kebbi State Government under Governor Nasir Idris’ leadership for its continued support, acknowledging the administration’s numerous developmental projects, including the construction of an ultra-modern state secretariat and roads across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a widow, Hadiza Usman Ribah, overwhelmed with emotion, expressed deep gratitude to the NUJ for its kindness, especially during Ramadan. She asked Allah to bless members and the Executive Council of the union.
The General Manager Kebbi State Television, Aminu Sani Kamba and representatives of the chapels also delivered goodwill messages.
