Kebbi PDP Bigwigs Among New APC Members As Gov Idris Receives Defectors Into Party In Kalgo, Jega, Aliero LGs
Kebbi State governor, Dr. Nasir Idris has continued to strengthen the APC fold in the Land of Equity as top PDP leaders and their supporters defected to the ruling party in Kalgo, Jega, and Aliero Local Governments on Thursday.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted that In Kalgo local government, Alhaji Umar Namashaya Diggi led hundreds of his supporters in defecting to APC.
Similarly, in Jega Local government, Alhaji Atiku Bunu, a former Commissioner for Works, defected with thousands of PDP supporters while in Aliero Local government, Alhaji Abubakar Abba Aliero, the younger brother of Senator Muhammadu Adamu Aliero, and former Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero, joined the APC with a large number of supporters.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors in Jega, Alhaji Atiku Bunu highlighted Governor Idris’ exceptional achievements and commitment to development noting that this made them take a decision to join the APC.
He however urged the state government to reopen the College of Health Technology, Jega, to avoid disruption of academic calendar and Governor Idris responded by instructing the Ministry of Higher Education to reopen the college immediately, submitting that ‘I am committed to ensuring the growth and development of our state, particularly in the education sector’.
During the event, Professor Khalid Suleiman Jega, who is the Chairman of Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), outlined the governor’s educational initiatives in Jega Local government including the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, provision of furniture, boreholes, and perimeter fencing of schools.
In Aliero Local government, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, commended Governor Idris for his dedication to good governance and improvement of the lives of Kebbi residents.
He assured the governor of their support, saying ‘We did not return to APC for personal gain but to contribute to the state’s development under your exemplary leadership’ .
He also disclosed that Senator Muhammadu Adamu Aliero is preparing to join the APC soon.
In recognition of the governor’s contribution to the welfare of persons with disabilities, the Chairman of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons Living with Disabilities, Alhaji Malami Gwandu, presented him with a Merit Award as a ‘Pillar of Care for Persons with Disabilities’.
Malami lauded Comrade Idris for being the first governor in Northern Nigeria to establish such a commission and appoint its leadership from the community of persons with disabilities.
At all three LGs, the Kebbi State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, officially presented the defectors to the governor and assured them of equal opportunities within the party while describing their return as ‘homecoming’.
Governor Idris thanked the defectors for their solidarity and restated his administration’s commitment to providing developmental projects across the state.
