Koro Abduction Case: Magistrate Urges DPP To Provide ‘Legal Advice’ Without Delay, Adjourns Case Until June 3

Salihu Muritala, Godwin Jacob, Olowofela Oyebanji, Adefalolu Ayodele, Tewasie Francis, Babatunde Samuel, Godwin Joseph, Issa Mumee ,Miracle Solomon, Abraham Kehinde, Muhammed Bello, Muhammed Muhammed, Ahmadu Umaru and Muhammed Dankai, who are the defendants in the Koro Ekiti abduction case, were again, brought before the court in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, on Wednesday.

Recall that they were arraigned on criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping charges a few weeks ago.

They were arrested and had charges preferred against them sequel to the killing of the Olukoro of Koro , Ekiti local Government, Kwara state, Oba Segun Aremu on February 1, 2024..

The abduction and murder trial continued at the Magistrates’ Court, Ilorin on Wednesday with the Magistrate, who presided over the court session, urging the prosecutor to ensure that ‘legal advice’ is provided by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions without delay in order that the trial can begin in earnest.

 Magistrate G.M  Kamson noted that the  seriousness of the case ought to have made the DPP to expedite action  with respect to provision of ‘legal advice’.

She added that some among the suspects are still  kept in correction center whilst the case continues while noting such a place is not ‘a holiday resort’.

The prosecutor , Mr. Abdulahi Sanni had urged the court to adjourn the case for further mention  as he was still awaiting ‘legal advice’.

Sanni however absolved the DPP from blame for the delay explaining that the officials have loads of work to do .

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Counsel for one of the defendants; Chief Olowofela Oyebanji , Barrister O.M Odeh had urged the court to consider ‘a fairly long date’ for the next  court date, citing the health condition of his client.

He added that Chief Olowofela Oyebanji had actually left the hospital bed  for the court and would be returning there .

Magistrate Kamson however submitted that Chief Olowofela Oyebanji is free to take care of his health and should inform the court through his counsel if such will necessitate his absence from court sessions.
