KSUSTA: Kebbi Education Commissioner Reacts To ASUU’s Press Conference, Discloses Plans To Renovate 50 Buildings, Says Salary Matters Already Being Addressed

Kebbi state Government will soon embark on a massive infrastructure development  at the Kebbi state University of Science and Technology, Aliero, KSUSTA , the  state Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga, has submitted.

  A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com  by Governor Nasir Idris’ Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted that Tunga said this while talking to journalists  in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday. 

He explained  that as part of the efforts of Governor Nasir Idris to improve infrastructure in the institution, 50 houses and a mosque  would be renovated while new ones would be constructed including additional hostels and staff quarters for the students and the staff respectively.

Reacting to the press conference held  earlier in the day  by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, Kebbi state University of Science and technology,  KSUSTA branch,  the Commissioner noted that being an educationist, Governor Nasir Idris has placed premium on educational development of Kebbi state, and would uphold the position of the university among the ten best state-owned universities in the country.

 ‘The press conference by ASUU this morning was hasty, the union chairman should have contacted me for an update on the payment of their consequential adjustment. The memo that  I submitted to the governor has been forwarded to the Due Process Office,

Due Process has completed work on the file, immediately the governor returns from the Hajj, he will give his approval and payment will be effected’ he said.

Tunga further explained that Governor Nasir Idris  has already increased cash allocation to the University from N5 million to N15 million in order to ensure that the management  offsets part of the arrears owed  the lecturers. 

‘The  chairman of  ASUU was a beneficiary, he telephoned me to say thank you’ the Commissioner added.

Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga  also disclosed that processes were being finalized to secure N1. 5 billion Tetfund for the Aliero University. 

‘I am appealing to all citizens to remain patient and rally round the benevolent Comrade, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu administration , within the limited resources of the state, he has satisfied the enormous demands of the people’ he asserted.

He also  announced that the governor has approved N119 million for the first convocation ceremony  of the Kebbi state University of Science and Technology, Aliero, which will feature 12 sets of graduands noting that this has not been held since the establishment of the institution. 

In addition, he said Comrade Nasir Idris also approved N40 million for the accreditation of courses at the College of Sciences, while N10 million additional monthly salary was also approved.

‘The lingering issues at the University was inherited from the previous administration, Kauran Gwandu has acted swiftly to resolve them. He has itemized nine priority areas for intervention.

 The governor has set up a committee comprising members from Higher Education and Health for the upgrading of the Kebbi Medical Centre, Kalgo, into a Teaching Hospital for the KSUSTA. Kauran Gwandu  is highly committed to the progress and excellence of the University, basic and tertiary education in Kebbi’ he said.

On security, the Higher Education Commissioner, expressed satisfaction about the security apparatus and structure at the university submitting  that the incident that had to do with the abduction of a lecturer happened inside Aliero Town and not on the university campus, while the threat  to assassinate another academic Staff took place outside the University gate .
