Members of the Correspondents’ chapel , Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) , Kwara state council, have declared continued support for the current chapel leaders.
The exco of the chapel has Mr. AbdulHakeem Garba of the Channels TV and Mr. Kayode AbdulAzeez as Chairman and Secretary respectively.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that Mr Nicholas Uwerunonye of the Daily Independent newspaper and Mr Oluseyi Dasilva of the Arise TV moved and seconded the motion calling for a vote of confidence in the exco respectively during an emergency congress held in Ilorin on Tuesday.
The exco, Nicholas and Dasilva noted, has been steadfast when it comes to prioritizing the welfare of members and the defence of their rights, especially, before, during and after the election that was held to produce new leaders for the state NUJ a few days ago.
Mr. Uwerunonye added that members of the exco have displayed good leadership qualities in the last five years through various welfare programmes that have touched and changed the lives of members of the chapel positively.
He also talked about the welfare programmes that were implemented and various forms of assistance that were rendered to distressed members, among others.
While urging other chapels, councils and the national body to always prioritize the interest of members and avoid conflicts , he also prayed for God’s continued guidance for members of the exco while urging members of the chapel to continue to support them.
Seconding the motion, Mr Oluseyi Dasilva , who also spoke in the same vein , added that members of the current exco have made the chapel grow in leaps and bounds and also made it the envy of others.
He noted that they had though done what they were elected to do excellently, they however ought to be commended and appreciated.
Chairman of the chapel, Mr Abdulhakeem Garba, who had the motion taking him by surprise, initially said there was no need for such, cognizant that the exco had only ensured that it carried out its duties and responsibilities effectively.
He, therefore, thanked members of the chapel for the confidence reposed in the exco and called for more support and unity among the members.
In another development, members of the new exco of Kwara state NUJ also paid a thank-you visit to the chapel on Tuesday.
The Council Chairman, Mr. Ahmed ‘Lateef, who spoke on behalf of the new Kwara NUJ leaders, expressed appreciation to members of the Correspondents’ chapel and sought their cooperation in moving the council forward-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
