Kwara Customs Command Hands Over 2 Suspected Stolen Vehicles To Lagos Police In Ilorin

Two suspected stolen vehicles that were intercepted by customs officers at the  Chikanda Border post , Kusobosu Local Government, Kwara state at separate times, precisely June 14, 2023, and July 16, 2023, were officially handed over to the Lagos state police command at the headquarters of the Kwara state Area command, Ilorin on Tuesday.

This has been done in the spirit of inter- agency collaboration, Area Controller, Kwara Area Command, Compt. Kehinde Dehinde Ilesanmi, submitted while adding that this was sequel to getting the go-ahead from the Comptroller General to hand over the two vehicles in question to the Nigeria Police Force for continuation of investigation.

The Kwara customs chief also told journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com during the short handover ceremony that the fact that the two vehicles; a Toyota Hiace Bus and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep , have the same license plate number was considered intriguing and had naturally aroused curiosity, hence the decision to launch investigation into the matter.

‘On Wednesday, 14th June, 2023 at about 1705hrs, which is 5:05pm, the Command intercepted one 2010 model Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep with Chassis Number JIEBXFJOAKOO7069 and Reg. No. EPE-911- HH at Chikanda Border post in Kusobosu Local Government, Kwara state. During the course of investigation, it was discovered that the license plate number  of the said vehicle belongs to a Toyota Hiace Bus and that was what heightened the curiosity of our officers and the vehicle was detained.

In what looked like a drama, on Sunday the 16th of July, 2023 exactly thirty (30) days after, at about 1430hrs which is 2:30pm, our officers yet again intercepted one used Toyota Hiace Bus with Chassis Number TRH200155105 in Chikanda heading towards Benin Republic. Surprisingly, the  bus has same license plate number  EPE-911- HH with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep that was earlier intercepted.

After preliminary investigation by our enforcement and legal unit, it was established that the two vehicles were stolen’ he said.

He also disclosed that from June  to October, 2023 the Area Command has recorded Fifteen (15) seizures including  352 bags of foreign par boiled riceof 50kg each, and 1, 875 liters of PMS of 25 liters each in 75 Jeri cans.

‘Three (3) suspects were arrested during the period under review and the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures is N11, 149,636.00.

Concerning revenue generation, from June to October ,the Command has generated the sum of N5, 992,300,562.73 which surpasses what was generated same period last year 2022 with N 307,517,623,49’ he added.

Ilesanmi has also warned those who may want to use the upcoming yuletide period as an opportunity to make money by smuggling prohibited items into the country to think twice as ‘our officers have continued to dominate our AoR with aggressive patrols to deny smugglers freedom of action’.- Team@orientactualmags.com
