
Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, has disclosed plans by the state government to introduce new strategy and take a bold and innovative action to tackle out-of-school children problem in the state.
Expanding on the strategy, the commissioner said community engagement will be increased, and literacy centers will be brought closer to the people while noting that this is being done in collaboration with the Kwara State Agency for Mass Education headed by Hajiya Fatima Oba-Banu.
She said the team has visited Sango community, Koro Afoju , Oko Olowo and other places to seek the cooperation and support of the community leaders in respect of the efforts to tackle out-of-school children problem in the state.
The Education Commissioner also submitted that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is passionate about Kwara State and committed to protecting the interests of all segments of society hence the state government’s commitment to tackling the out-of-school children problem.
Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, who said this while appearing on Diamond FM’s ‘Ebawa Dasi’ programme on Tuesday, added that the Agency for Mass Education though currently has literacy centers at each of the 16 local governments in the state, the state government, she noted, is however planning to bring the literacy centers closer to the people to reduce distance and encourage the children in question to attend such literary centers before getting moved to the formal schools.

The commissioner also talked about the recent crackdown on loitering students in the state capital while seeking the cooperation and support of parents and other stakeholders in this respect.
She also said public school teachers in the state have been trained on how to use tablets in teaching and learning through the Kwaralearn programme.
This ICT-driven learning, she added, has ensured a unified scheme for all pupils in the state, create an opportunity to know their deficiencies, monitor progress in class through the tablets thereby tackling absenteeism on the part of the teachers while it has also helped to increase enrollment in public schools.
It has also increased numeracy level, literacy level and enhanced people’s confidence in public schools.
