Kwara Gets Ready For LG Elections As Gov Abdulrazaq Makes 7 Nominations To KWSIEC

Local government elections will soon be held in Kwara state going by the development recorded on Wednesday.
A Government House statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday noted that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has made seven nominations to the Kwara state Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC).
The statement did not however disclose names of the nominees.
It will be recalled that the last local government elections held in the state took place in November 2017.
Local government elections had not been held in Kwara state since Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq became the governor on May 29 2019 .
Olojoku of Ojoku, Oyun local government, Oba Abdul Rasaq Adegboyega Afolabi had however in an interview with Team@orientactualmags.com a few days ago, said it would be unfair to blame the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration for not conducting local government elections since 2019 citing what he called ‘defensible reason’.

‘Let me correct certain impressions and set the record straight, Iam not a politician, but members of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWAISEC) were appointed by the former administration a few days before leaving it is not easy that the current administration will allow them to conduct the local government elections , let us face reality. at the point of leaving the office you now appointed members of the state electoral commission and they are supposed to have a five-year term.
As a former local government worker, NULGE Chairman, NLC Chairman, Iam saying it authoritatively that it is not easy for any governor to use such a group of people for the local government elections and that is why no local government elections have been held since 2019, if the governor wins re-election, he will just find a way to manage them and let them go away.
In my capacity as Olojoku of Ojoku, I will not blame the governor for not conducting local government elections’ he said.

The Government House statement on Wednesday also noted that names of the nominees had since been forwarded to the State House of Assembly by the governor for ‘confirmation hearing’.
“Having now cleared all legal logjams on its way, the process for the conduct of the local government elections has begun. This begins with the immediate constitution of the KWSIEC board once the nominees have been confirmed by the parliament.
This will be followed earnestly by other steps already stipulated in the law, including notice of election’ Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, who e-signed the statement, submitted- Team@orientactualmags.com
