The Kwara state Government on Sunday directed the College of Education , Ilorin to reopen immediately.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Tertiary Education , Mrs. Monsurat Amuda-Kannike in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com quoted the Commissioner, Dr. Alabi Afees Abolore as saying that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq gave the directive following the interventions of some relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the problem.
It would be recalled that the state government had five weeks ago, ordered that the College be shut down following the protest embarked upon by students at the Institution – an action the administration considered as unnecessary.
The Commissioner said the government had to order the closure of the school to prevent having developments that may inflame the situation recorded whilst taking steps to resolve it.
The statement noted that it took the Ministry a series of meetings with the Management of the College, the leaderships of the Joint Academic Staff Union in Tertiary Institutions (JASUTI) and Committee of Unions in Tertiary Institutions (CUTI) at the Institution, and other important stakeholders, who all pleaded for the return to a state of normalcy.
He said another takeaway from those meetings was the promise from the attendees never to allow anything that could threaten public peace and impede academic session at the the citadel of learning happen again.
The Statement further noted that the latest decision by the government was to enable the College to continue with the examination that was naturally put on hold following the closure of the college. .
