Kwara State government has made its findings known after holding a ‘disciplinary hearing’ for a high school teacher in the state, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike.
Recall that she had come under fire and got heavily criticized by social media users in the country following reports that she assaulted a corps member who is having her mandatory one-year national service at the Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
The corps member in question had reportedly visited the school to pick up her clearance letter but was allegedly assaulted by Hajia Hamzat Fatimah ,who was until Wednesday a teacher at the school.
Mrs. Nike Hamzat had accused the female corps member of not greeting her ‘properly’.
Announcing the decisions taken on the matter, the state Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar noted in a joint statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com that the investigative panel set up to investigate the complaints filed by the corps member found Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike guilty of fighting on duty, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity that the NYSC T-shirt the corps member wore represents.
She was also blamed for using foul language.
Mrs. Hamzat Nike has not only been transferred to another school but has also gotten demoted.
‘Her behavior contravenes public service rules, and she has therefore been demoted by two-grade levels.
The teacher is also to be transferred out of her current school as well as undergo counseling.
Under no circumstance will the State Government tolerate such an abuse. The government deeply regrets the action of the teacher and reassures the management of the National Youth Service Corps that the development does not in any way represent the people of the state, and it will not happen again’ the statement said.
‘The act is unacceptable in society and not allowed in Kwara State cognizant that the state is known for peace and harmony’ Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu had submitted in a statement she issued last week.
