Kwara: Herbalist Accused Of Raping 21- Year- Old Woman Remanded In Custody
A Magistrates’ court in Ilorin, Kwara state on Tuesday ordered that an Ibadan- based social media influencer and herbalist, Sultan Ojuwoni Atakoro and one Olaitan Ibrahim Olalekan, who were recently arrested for rape and arson, should be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Centre, Oke-Kura, Ilorin until January 17, 2024.
Olalekan and Atakoro are facing criminal charges having being accused of rape and arson .
The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that Atakoro serially raped and set ablaze a 21- year- old girl , Firdaos Jimoh at his shrine, in Ibadan, Oyo state.
He had done this in connivance with Olalekan and a woman, Omowumi and her children who are currently at large.
The suspects have been accused of criminal conspiracy, unlawful trial by ordeal, rape , causing grievous bodily hurt by dangerous means and attempting to commit culpable homicide, contrary to Sections 97, 214, 283, and 229 of the Penal Code Law.
Magistrate Kolawole Aluko, who did not take the plea of the suspects after the charges against them were read out , cited lack of jurisdiction .
He, however, listened to the submissions of the prosecution and counsel for the second defendant after which he ordered that the suspects should be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Centre, Oke-Kura, Ilorin and adjourned the case until January 17, 2024, for mention.
