
A teacher at the Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, Kwara State ,Mrs. Amuzat Fatima Nike, has come under fire, and she is being heavily criticized by social media users in the State of Harmony following reports that she assaulted a corps member who is having her mandatory one-year national service at the school in question.
The corps member had reportedly visited the school to pick up her clearance letter but was allegedly assaulted by the teacher who accused her of not greeting her ‘properly’.
The teacher reportedly attacked the corps member, her NYSC white T-shirt was torn in the process while a co-teacher gave Mrs. Nike unsolicited support and allegedly slapped her.
Kwara State Government on Friday reacted to the incident and disclosed that investigation is underway while adding that the teacher in question, Mrs. Amuzat Fatima Nike will face a disciplinary hearing.
‘The act is unacceptable in society and not allowed in Kwara State cognizant that the state is known for peace and harmony’ Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu was quoted as saying.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Mr. Peter Amogbonjaye, who is the Press Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, noted that Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu also submitted that the state government will not allow anything to truncate the existing peace at academic institutions in the state.
‘The Anti-Loitering Team of the Ministry and the Management Team of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission have paid an unscheduled visit to the school to investigate the alleged assault case and calm has been restored.
The commissioner however appeals to the Management of the National Youth Service Corps and all concerned people to be patient, remain law-abiding and perform their duties without fear, as the concerned teacher has been summoned and necessary disciplinary procedures will be taken accordingly’ the statement added-
Head of Information and Public Relations, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Kwara State, Morakinyo Oladipo, who confirmed the incident, said the agency would take necessary actions in defence of the corps member in question, adding that the state government has been informed of the incident through the state Ministry of Youth, the supervising ministry.
He added that as an interim measure, the corps member will get a new primary place of assignment to help her overcome the trauma.
‘It’s a fact. The story is true and we’re writing a rejoinder. All necessary steps have been taken to seek redress for the assaulted corps member.
The NYSC has formally informed the state government through the honourable commissioner, the state ministry of Youth, our supervisory ministry and the state government has swung into action immediately since the news broke out.
Presently, we’re at the orientation camp. All the necessary steps to seek redress for the corps member are being taken. The NYSC expresses its displeasure concerning the matter’ he added.
The NYSC is also according to him looking forward to having the people involved punished.
‘We’re expecting investigation and proper action to be taken against the people that abused the corps member. The corps member that is on national assignment.
