Kwara LG Elections: Gov AbdulRazaq, Kayode Alabi, Other Political Bigwigs Cast Their Ballots As Voting Gets Underway

Residents of Kwara State, who are eligible to vote, are currently at their polling stations to exercise their civic right.

Local government elections are currently underway in the state, and it will produce those who will emerge as executive chairmen and councilors in the 16 local governments and the 193 Wards in the State of Harmony respectively.

Counting is expected to begin after the polls close today with the results expected after midnight.

It was peaceful local government elections and this last time this was done in the state was in 2017.

 Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq , his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi and other political figures were at their respective polling stations to cast their ballots on Saturday .

After casting his vote at Idigba polling unit 004 , Adewole Ward , Ilorin West local government at about 10:55 am, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq commended the voter turnout while submitting that democracy has come to stay.

‘From what we can see here, the turnout is very okay. Democracy has come to stay’ the governor submitted while describing the election as peaceful and commending the security agencies for taking steps to ensure security of lives and property.

The state Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi also joined others to participate in the election on Saturday and he was at First ECWA primary school, Oro -Ago , Ifelodun Local Government, to cast his ballot.

Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electorate Commission (KWASIEC), Mr Mohammed Baba-Okanla, who monitored the conduct of the election in Ilorin metropolis, also said logistics caused the delay in the distribution of election materials.

‘Some circumstances may have caused the delay. Some of the vehicles transporting election materials to polling stations broke down and we’ve found ways to address the situation. You can see in this area now, normalcy has returned. In some of the places we’ve visited, there was no problem it’s just that there was late arrival of material. But as soon as we got there, situations were improved upon’ he said.

Team@orientactualmags.com  learned that election materials and electoral officers arrived at Iyeru Ward, polling unit 1a, 1b, 1c & 008 opposite Offa Grammar School, Offa at exactly 10:43am where accreditation and voting had since begun.

There was however voter apathy as lack of interest to participate in the election was noticed on the part of the residents of the state.

It was also discovered that market men and market women in the state carried out their ‘daily routine’ and there was no ‘lull in activity’ at marketplaces including Ipata and Ganmo  .

One of the Market women, Mrs. Iyabo Alata told journalists that she preferred to monitor her business than to go to her polling station  to vote.

‘This is the only option that will put food on my table and not voting. I prefer to monitor my business than to go  to the polling station to vote’ she said.

‘We have been voting since we were born and we are yet to see any impact of those we voted for in the past.

My business is my pride. I don’t care about the election because nothing will come out of it.
