The leading opposition party in Kwara state, the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has accused the Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq administration of financial recklessness saying the party had again, been vindicated by ‘the publication released in the First Quarter (2022) Budget Implementation Performance Report of the state government’.
In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Tuesday by its state Publicity Secretary, Hon Tunji Morounfoye, the party noted that as contained in the said publication, the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration had spent the sum of N413m on international trips made by officials of the government between January and March 2022.
‘This is coming despite the repeated claims by the current administration of being prudent in the management of the state’s resources. We at the PDP wonder how prudent this wasteful action could be. We have found ourselves in the great financial mess created by the National APC party regime at the centre, where close to eighty percent (80%) of revenue is used to service debts.
Yet, our state government goes on jamboree foreign trips, all in the name of bringing in phantom foreign investments. Till date, after nearly four years, kwarans have not seen or heard of a single Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Kwara state, facilitated by this shameless Kwara APC regime.
The report further showed that, of the N774,214,199.00 (N774M) budgeted for international travels in 2022, the sum of N413,546,812.00 (N413M) representing 53.4% had been spent between January and March 2022 alone. It is already apparent that the incompetent Kwara APC party regime will include more money as a supplementary budget to further fuel their insatiable thirst for jamboree foreign trips, all at the expense of Kwarans’ the statement said.
The party also alleged that the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration had also spent the sum of N94,855,407.45 on Internet service between January and March 2022.
‘We at the PDP wonder what the internet services were for. Is it that, every Kwaran was given the Government Wi-Fi password, to be able to access the internet for free? the party asked.
The statement also claimed that the current administration had ‘absolutely nothing to showcase as a completed and inaugurated landmark project’.
‘A civic research institution BugetIT, sometimes last week brought out a ranking for states Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The Formula to calculate GDP is;
GDP = private consumption + gross private investment + government investment + government spending + (exports – imports).
After this calculation, Kwara state ranked 35/36 of the states in the federation. Kwara state had in the past, always ranked 10th out of 36 states or lower, even with the low federal allocation and low Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) in the past. Now, that the current inept Kwara APC party regime led by Mal. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has accessed an unprecedented amount of revenue in the last three and a half years, we rank second to the last in terms of GDP. This makes it clear that Kwara state revenue is being siphoned into private pockets and not used to develop Kwara state’ the statement added.
