Kwara Poly: Construction Of Perimeter Fence ‘Long-overdue’-Rector … Shun Favoritism, Tribalism,  Education Commissioner Tells Graduands

The Rector, Kwara state Polytechnic, Ilorin,  Engineer Dr. Addul Jimoh Mohammed, has urged those who have just become alumni of the Polytechnic to be  ‘good ambassadors’ of the institution and ensure that they remain responsible citizens .

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Engineer  Mohammed  said this on Thursday while giving his speech during the Convocation Ceremony  held at the institution  for  the  2022/2023 academic  session .

A total of 8,350 people graduated from the polytechnic during its  29th convocation ceremony on Thursday.

5,350 among the graduands  received Higher National Diploma (HND) , the remaining 3,000 graduands  earned Ordinary National Diploma (OND) while 102  among them graduated with distinction.

Jimoh Barakat Omowunmi , HND Mechanical Engineering was the Overall Best National Diploma student , HND category, while  Maruf Ibrahim got that of  the ND category.

‘You have laboured hard, toiled tirelessly and burnt the candle at both ends and these have culminated in this joyous event. No doubt, your dreams  have been fulfilled and you have become the prides and glories of your parents and guardians. Therefore, you must always remember that the certificates in your possession are very precious; they are confirmations that you have proved yourselves worthy in character and learning’ Engineer Dr. Addul Jimoh Mohammed, said.

He also  commended  Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for creating an enabling environment for the management of the institution to carry out its duties and fulfill its obligations effectively.

The  Rector had  earlier  on Wednesday  disclosed that a 33KV  transformer has been procured by the polytechnic which will step up voltage from power plants,  boost electricity supply and improve learning environment.

‘The project which was undertaken by the management will ensure regular power supply to the polytechnic, Apata-Yakuba, Oyun, Oke-Oyi and Oke-Ose communities in Moro and Ilorin East local governments, other state and federal government agencies that will also benefit from the institution’s largesse are the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital( UITH ), Kwara state Television Authority, Radio Kwara, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPCL), Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON)’   he had submitted.

The  Renovated old IOT lecture Hall, Laboratories/workshop and office projects were also inaugurated on Thursday..

Jimoh listed the challenges the institution has faced to include funding and illegal occupation of land belonging to the polytechnic land.

He has urged the government to make construction of perimeter fence at the polytechnic a priority.

Construction of a perimeter fence at the institution  is according to him long- overdue as it will  check ‘intruders’ and enhance security while submitting that everything belonging to the polytechnic is currently valued at  26 billion naira and nothing should therefore be spared when it comes to protecting such an asset.

The Commissioner For Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Ronke Arinde ,who commended the graduands as well as their parents and guardians for their resilience,  urged the graduands to get ready to soar in a highly competitive world.

‘I urge you to tap from the abundant entrepreneurial skills gained at the polytechnic, to launch yourselves into self-reliance. This,  will not only be to your advantage, but will go a long way to complement the government’s policies towards taking Nigeria away from a mono-economy. In addition, for you to get ahead in life, volunteer to do very sound  and valuable venture that no one else cares to do, and do it better for the benefits of all.

Accept responsibilities and shun criminal tendencies, this will make you stand out among equals and remain appreciated by others.
