Kwara Popular Politician, Sulaiman Maja, Laid To Rest In Ilorin…Saraki, PDP Offer Condolences
A popular politician in Kwara State, Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf Kayode Maja, who died on Friday, was laid to rest in Ilorin, on Saturday.
Top politicians in the state including a former Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Ladi Hassan attended the Islamic funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) that was held for him on Saturday.
Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf Kayode Maja was until his death on Friday an influential politician in the State of Harmony.
The late Alhaji Maja , who was a PTS teacher at Oke Suna Girls Day Secondary School, Ilorin, ventured into politics and got elected as a councilor during the aborted 3rd republic.
He represented Oju Ekun Sarumi Ward in the legislative council of Ilorin West local government.
Alhaji Maja served as Commissioner for Works and later got redeployed to Ministry of Lands and Housing during the Admiral Mohammed Lawal administration while he also served as Special Adviser Inter-governmental and Special Adviser on Political Affairs during the Bukola Saraki administration.
Expressing heartfelt sadness and a deep sense of loss, former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has submitted that Alhaji Maja’s death ‘is a personal loss to him, the Saraki political family, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and Kwara State as a whole.
Dr Saraki in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Mr Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir , described the late Maja as a family associate who related intimately with the Saraki dynasty and was well known for his closeness to him and the late Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki .
‘Today, we have lost a titan and a rare gem. Alhaji Suleiman Maja was a part of the Saraki dynasty whose loyalty and devotion were never a subject of doubt either to me or Baba Oloye.
He was a member of the PDP Elders Council, a close confidant, a trusted party leader, and a reliable ally all through his lifetime.
The loyalty he showed to the Saraki political family and his commitment to service to humanity will never be forgotten.
This is an emotional moment for me because of how dear Alhaji Maja was to me and how much support he rendered to the Saraki political family and the development of polity in Kwara. We shall forever cherish the memories’ he said.
Saraki commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased politician, the PDP and the people of Ilorin Emirate while asking Allah to comfort them at this difficult time and grant Alhaji Maja a beautiful abode in Aljanah Firdaus.
The state PDP in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Olusegun Olusola Adewara also noted that the party was grief-stricken and devastated to learn of the passing of Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf Kayode.
‘The death of such a graceful and compassionate elder, who was unwavering in his loyalty to the PDP and the Saraki political family until his last breath, has come to the party as a rude shock.
Alhaji Maja was an embodiment of patriotism and selflessness, dedicated to the cause of the PDP and the betterment of Kwara State. He was a core politician, a true grassroots man who lived for the people around him.
As one of the mentees of the late Dr Olusola Saraki, Baba Maja epitomized the values and principles the late sage stood for. He stood by the Saraki family through thick and thin, dedicating his resources to uplifting those around him. His unwavering commitment to the people and his selfless service were hallmarks of his character.
Beyond his political commitments, Alhaji Maja lived a life of deep faith, leaving behind an enduring legacy of Islam for his children and family. His life was marked by grace, humility, and love for others, as he consistently put the welfare of those around him before his own.
Indeed, Kwara PDP has lost one of its best and most dependable members. He was a true statesman.
In this difficult time of grief, the PDP commiserates with the family of Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf Kayode Maja.
