Kwara South Senate Seat: APC Elders Energize Calls For ‘Equity’ During ‘Important’ Meeting In Ilorin

Members of the Kwara South APC Elders Forum on Tuesday held an important meeting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, during which the calls for equity in the senatorial district got invigorated.

Recall that ahead of the 2027 General Election, stakeholders in Kwara south senatorial district have continued to emphasize the need to ensure fairness and equity and put in place an arrangement that will make all the components and blocs in the senatorial district have equal opportunities.

The stakeholders have consistently noted that it is important that the Ibolo and Ekiti blocs support the Igbomina bloc to produce the next occupant of the Kwara South senate seat cognizant that the Ekiti bloc had occupied the parliament seat for 12 years while the Ibolo bloc that took over in 2015, would be completing its 12 years in 2027.

They have therefore submitted that the decision to promote Igbomina lokan campaign will help to ensure that the bond of unity in Kwara South remains unassailable.

During the meeting held on Tuesday at the residence of former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief J.B Ayeni, who is the chairman of the group, members of the Kwara South APC Elders Forum noted that fairness and equity have immense potency for unity and cohesion and declared support for the Igbomina lokan campaign.

Although, the meeting is held fortnightly, that of Tuesday, November 18, 2025, was ‘special’ because it coincided with the visit of members of the Kwara South Unity Group (KSUG) who were there to say ‘we are on the same page’.

 Leader of the KSUG delegation, Engineer Adebayo Alao and the members including Professor Bashir Olaitan and Hon Abdulrahman Akanni thanked the APC elders for supporting the ‘noble cause’ while also presenting Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun’s value proposition.

‘Initially, I wasn’t part of this team and before I could be convinced to join the train, a thorough check was done and I came to the realization that Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi’s antecedents and commitment over the years is worthy of making people love and support him, and I believe such a person should be given deserving attention and recognition by this forum’ Professor Bashir Olaitan said.

In an interview with orientactualmags.com’s Bello Nafisat after the end of the meeting, Chairman of Kwara South APC Elders Forum, Chief J.B Ayeni  noted that members of the group do meet fortnightly while adding that during the Tuesday’s meeting, the calls for fairness and equity in the senatorial district was energized.

 We met today and deliberated on issues, it is our desire that the Igbomina bloc is allowed to produce the next senator in Kwara South , we have three blocs; Ekiti , Igbomina and Ibolo, in Ekiti where I hail from, Senator Simon Ajibola spent 12 uninterrupted years, Ibolo took over ,Ashiru will be  completing his eight years in 2027 and before then an Ibolo person, Rafiu had done four years if you add the two together, it will be 12 years whereas Igbomina which is the largest  of the three groups with so many wards has only done it for four years  it will be reasonable and in the spirit of fairness and equity we should allow an Igbomina person to also spend 8 years so that their own will also be 12 years and after that it can go to any of the two blocs.  But at least on the average if that is done it will mean that each of the three blocs has spent 12 years’ he added.

Former Senator Bisi Oyewo, who is from Oyun local government, also told orientactualmags.com’s Bello Nafisat that there are good reasons for championing the Igbomina lokan campaign.

‘Today’s meeting was held to finalize arrangements in respect of which bloc should be supported for the senate seat in 2027 and we have decided that it is the turn of the Igbomina bloc .
