Kwara South Senate Seat: KSUG Emphasizes Role Of Ward Chairmen In Ensuring Unity, Party Cohesion…Urges Fairness, Equity

A group, the Kwara South Unity Group (KSUG) has emphasized the role of party officials at the ward level in ensuring unity and party cohesion while calling them ‘gatekeepers’ and adding that they are the people who can save a political party from the danger of losing touch with its grassroots.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the KSUG leaders said this during the separate meetings held with the 83 APC Ward chairmen in Kwara South on Tuesday.

The KSUG leaders met with those who are in Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun federal constituency in Idofian while ward chairmen in Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Irepodun federal constituency gathered at the APC secretariat, Omu-Aran for the ‘important’ meeting.

Former chairman of Oyun local government, Hon Adebayo Jimoh Alao, who led the KSUG delegation, noted that the group is passionate about the progress of Kwara South and having recognized fairness and equity as important tools for unity, it was considered expedient to take steps that will help to strengthen the ‘bond of unity’ in the senatorial district.

The Ekiti bloc, Hon Alao noted, had occupied the parliament seat for 12 years while the Ibolo bloc that took over in 2015, would be completing its 12 years in 2027, the Igbomina bloc should therefore be allowed to produce the next occupant of the Kwara South Senate seat in the spirit of fairness and equity.

He added that the purpose of convening the meeting is to ensure that the ward chairmen, who are important stakeholders in the party, are made to be on the same page with the group and become agents of ‘Igbomina lokan’ campaign.

Hon Alao, a one-time Commissioner for Sports, added that while the group has made ‘Igbomina lokan’ its core agenda, there is also a need to ensure that the party fields a candidate who will ensure ‘quality representation’.

‘Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun ,who had unsuccessfully sought party nominations in 2018 and 2023 , and did not rock the boat but rather supported all the APC candidates and even increased his support for the party and its members fits the bill’ he said.

He also said it is important for the party to support Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun to get the Kwara South APC senate nomination in order to encourage other party members to show maturity when they seek party nominations and fail to get it.

Former chairman of Ifelodun local government, Dr Babatunde Salami, Mr Agbenisi John from Ekiti local government, former chairman of Isin local government, Hon Tunde Fadipe, Mrs. Shade Olanrewaju and Alhaja Amina Folake Yusuf in their separate speeches, urged party members to avoid falling prey to the tricks of those they referred to as ‘emergency politicians’, who will according to them ‘come shortly before elections and vamoose once they lose party nominations or become unavailable after winning elections’.

They also asserted that the ‘Igbomina lokan’ agenda is a just cause while emphasizing the need to ensure fairness and equity.

Hon Julius Fagbemi (Obbo Aiyegunle Ward 1) during the meeting in Omu-Aran  described Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun as a good candidate while also calling him a compassionate politician.

Hon Anthony Dada from Oke-Ero local government also submitted that Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun is well-known person in the party and promised to support his candidacy.

Earlier, Chairman of Ward chairmen in Isin/Irepodun/Ekiti/Oke-Ero federal constituency, Hon Olusegun Olukayode (Odo Owa Ward one) commended Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun for being the first person to give a thought to the idea of holding meeting with the ward chairmen.

He also added that the Kwara South senate aspirant has never at any point in time joined anyone to ‘tackle’ Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq hence their love for him.

Speaking at the meeting held with the ward chairmen in Idofian, Hon Layi Oyediran  noted that a clever , and intelligent politician will know that the Igbomina lokan campaign is self-explanatory and reasonable.

Hon Adeleke Aburi and Hon Shuaib Abdulwaheed ,who in their separate speeches highlighted Engineer Adeyemi Balogun’s ‘value proposition’ and ‘selling points’,  commended KSUG for its initiatives while noting that this had been expected before now considering its importance.

‘If we had before this time had what KSUG is doing now, possibly we may not have had any instance of choosing any wrong person’ Aburi said.

Shuaib particularly recalled the scenario enacted during the Kwara South APC  primary election in 2022 disclosing that Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun gave money to all the delegates without seeking to know who will vote for him or not.

Also speaking, Hon Yinusa Alakija urged the KSUG leaders to remain true to their goal and continue to support Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun’s candidacy-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
