Kwara state Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Usman Yunusa Lade, has made ‘inspection visit’ to Asa, Sobi and Agba Dam Water Works all in Ilorin, the state capital, noting that he has done this to see things for himself and know the challenges that should be addressed in respect of water dams in the state.
Press Secretary , Ministry of Water Resources, Mr. Adamu Mohammed Saidu, noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com that the Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christiana Asonibare, Director Personnel, Finance and Supply, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Shuaib; Director, Water Engineering Services, Engr. Yusuf Wopa; Secretary , Kwara state Water Corporation, Alhaji Buhari Kayode Sani and other management staff of the Ministry and the State Water Corporation.
The first port of call was Asa Dam Water Works, where the Commissioner disclosed that the ongoing rehabilitation project is at its peak, adding that the contractor handling the project ‘is now fixing the lamina plates at the treatment plant’.

Lade added that as soon as the fixing of the lamina plates is completed, the Water Works will resume full operation and commence supply of water to designated areas under its coverage.
The Commissioner stated further that the state government is doing everything humanly possible to address existing challenges in water works in the state, while disclosing that necessary measures will soon be put in place to allow smooth operation of the dams.

At Sobi Water Works, the Director, Water Engineering Services, Engr. Yusuf Wopa informed the Commissioner that the dam has been overgrown with grass which is responsible for the diversion of water from the main dam.
Engr. Wopa said this has caused the failure of the dam to retain water, stating the need for the state government to intervene in order to proffer workable solutions to the lingering problems.
In the meanwhile, the Commanding Officer, Cantonment Maintenance Group, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Lt. Col. Sunday Eche, who noted that Sobi Water Works is the only source of water supply to the Barracks, has urged the state government to ensure a prompt intervention that will help to alleviate the sufferings of residents of the barracks -Team@orientactualmags.com
