Kwara state University, Malete, officially declared the start of a period of mourning for Professor Mustapha Mohammed-Akanbi on Monday.
Akanbi, was until his death on Sunday, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The professor of law , a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, became the Vice- Chancellor of the University at the age of 49.
He was appointed as Vice-Chancellor on April 1 2020.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the university had since declared a one-week mourning period.
‘As we all mourn the passing of our dear Vice- Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Mustapha Akanbi SAN which sad event occurred yesterday, November 20, 2022, a one- week of mourning has been declared in the University.
All activities are hereby suspended in the University from today, Monday November 21 to Sunday November 27, 2022 for us to mourn this immense loss.
I urge everyone to put the wife, children and family of Professor Akanbi in prayers as well as the University.
May Allah forgive his sins, widen his grave and grant him admission into jannatul Firdaus.
May the University community never again witness such an unfortunate loss’ Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, who is the university’s Registrar, submitted in a statement on Monday.
Former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki had since sent his condolences while calling Akanbi ‘a great educator’ .
‘I received with shock the news of the death of Vice- Chancellor of Kwara state University, Malete, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN).
He will be remembered as a great educator with exemplary leadership qualities.
