KWIRS ED, Shade Omoniyi,  Discusses Ease Of Doing Business, Ways To Improve IGR During Meeting With Hotel Owners In Ilorin

Officials of the Kwara state Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) and members of the hotel owners association in the state have held an important meeting during which ease of doing business and ways to improve internally generated revenue (IGR) in the state were discussed.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com quoted  the Executive Director of  KWIRS, Mrs. Shade Omoniyi, to have noted that the meeting was convened to address ways in which both parties could enjoy more productive relationships through the creation of an atmosphere that would enable ease of doing business and also improve the IGR of the state.

Mrs. Omoniyi was  represented by the Director, Admin and Operations, Olatunji Balogun, and the  Director, Legal and Compliance, Shehu Mogaji.

The meeting also had in attendance representatives from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology, Kwara state Fire Service, Kwara state Environmental Protection Agency and the Ministry of Communications.

In the meanwhile, the association of hotel owners, Kwara state chapter, through its president, Alhaji Dauda Akande, and secretary, Babatunde Oladunmoye, has appealed to Governor  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to save the hotel industry in the state from collapse.

The association noted that this appeal became imperative in the face of alleged harassment, extortion and unlawful locking up of hotels without court order by  members of  the revenue task force set up by the Kwara state Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS).

The association has also called for a stop to the payment of 50% of Hotel Tourism registration fees as annual renewal fees, submitting that, ‘this amounts to reregistering hotels every two years’ adding that ‘registration renewal fees should not be more than 25% of the initial registration fees’.

‘Fixing of taxes and levies should involve those who will pay, those who will collect (KWIRS) and the MDAs to prevent unnecessary friction and rancor.

KWIRS should stop locking up of hotels without court order since they cannot be the judge in their own case. They should follow due process in all tax matters to prevent us from approaching a court of competent jurisdiction for redress if locking up of the hotels of our members without due process continues.

The status of our association with regard to corporate citizenship is not in doubt, and we have been providing employment opportunities for Kwarans’ the association added- Team@orientactualmags.com
