Land Dispute: Gov Adeleke’s Special Adviser, LG Chairman, Others Accused Of Assaulting Lawyers, Journalists…May Face Contempt Charges

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr Samuel Ojo ,Chairman of Ila Local Government, Hon. Adebisi Jayeola, and others may face serious legal action for contempt of court unless remedial steps are quickly taken in respect of a land dispute, a source told Team@orientactualmags.com on Monday.

They have been accused of obstructing a high court order and may therefore face contempt charges.

The government officials in question were also alleged to have physically attacked lawyers and court officials who were mandated to supervise the enforcement of possession of parcels of land upon which the Osun State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other edifices were allegedly built illegally.

Barrister Lekan Alabi was allegedly attacked by thugs at the instance of the government officials and they also stopped the lawyer and his team from reclaiming the large parcels of land from those who have engaged in land usurpation there for nearly 28 years.

One of the government officials was alleged to have made his black Hilux jeep available for the use of the thugs with their leader allegedly squealing in a high-pitched voice that the enforcement of the court order was an affront to the ruling party.

‘An Osogbo High Court had granted a perpetual order of injunction against trespassers on the affected parcels of land in 1997, and after a long waiting period, an order of ex parte for enforcement was granted on February 20, 2025.

The contemptuous actions of both the Security Adviser and Hon. Jayeola, if proven, could have far-reaching consequences and liability for them, the government, and others, who are undermining the principles of the rule of law.

The High Court ruling delivered on February 20, 2025, by Honourable Justice A.O. Oyebiyi, asserted that late Mrs. Sinatu Adeoye is the rightful owner of the parcels of land. The court authorized the presence of its bailiff and sheriff for execution of the order.

During the enforcement of the judgment, the legal team and court officials faced resistance at Jaye Filling Station, reportedly owned by Hon. Jayeola. Eyewitnesses reported that the Chief Imam of Jaye mosque verbally attacked the team, and minutes later, unidentified hoodlums violently attacked the lawyer, Mr. Lekan Alabi, and others’ a source told Team@orientactualmags.com on Monday.

Counsel for Adeoye family, Mr. Najeem Popoola,  who has condemned the unprovoked violence and called for immediate action by the authorities, urged the Nigeria Police and relevant security agencies to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice while restating his commitment to peaceful and lawful resolution, and  urging stakeholders and community leaders to support the rule of law and condemn unlawful resistance-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
