Late Isiaka Sulaiman Ajimoti’s Life And Legacy Remembered At Fidau Prayer Held For Him In Ilorin

Late Isiaka Sulaiman Ajimoti’s Life And Legacy Remembered At Fidau Prayer Held For Him In Ilorin

Prominent Islamic clerics in Ilorin took turns to pay tributes to late Sheikh Isiaka Sulaiman Ajimoti at the fidau held for him in Okeleru area of Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

The late Sheikh Isiaka Sulaiman Ajimoti ,a well-known Islamic scholar, who was a popular Islamic cleric in Abidjan, Cotonou, Lagos State and Ilorin, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Late Sheikh Isiaka Sulaiman Ajimoti

Sheikh Isiaka Sulaiman Ajimoti, who left Markaz Arabic and Islamic Training Centre, Agege , Lagos State , in 1987, contributed greatly to the promotion of Islam and deeper understanding of the faith through Islamic missionary work in Nigeria and outside the country.

Apart from aiding the growth of Islam in the aforementioned places, Grand Mufti of Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Suleiman Faruq Onikijipa, who was the deceased Islamic cleric’s childhood friend, also described him as a pious Muslim, who was selfless and had ‘no limit love’ for his younger brother, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Suleiman.

He made reference to an instance where he was in the know about a special prayer done by the late Sheikh Isiaka Sulaiman Ajimoti in the 80s and he had later sought to know what he made his ‘prayer point’ and he (Ajimoti) had disclosed to him that he prayed for his brother, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman to become a political figure in the country.

Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, who served as Minister for National Planning from July 2014 to May 2015, is currently the Director General of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja.

Sheikh Suleiman Faruq Onikijipa in his short sermon, also talked about how Satan tricked Prophet Adam into eating the forbidden fruit and how death entered the world as a consequence of what he did.

He urged Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman and other bereaved family members to show patience citing what God told Prophet Muhammad after the death of Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib in the battle of Uhud which was quite painful and deeply distressing.

He noted that while ‘death is departure of friends’, what would be more disappointing however is to meet in another place in the hereafter apart from paradise explaining that not everyone will enjoy the privilege of reunion in paradise except those who have done good deeds on the planet earth.

Also giving a short sermon, Sheikh Sulaiman Abubakar Soroh, who is the Grand Mukadam of Ilorin, urged Muslims to be conscious of the time they will spend in the grave and where they would be in the hereafter.

He also talked about how the body undergoes decomposition in the grave while in the stage called ‘al-Barzakh’ which is the waiting period before the Day of Judgment.

The prayer service was presided over by Chief Imam of Ilorin, Imam Bashir, who was assisted by Imam Imale of Ilorin, Sheikh Abdullahi Abdulhamid, Imam Gambari of Ilorin, Sheikh Suleiman Abdulazeez and other Islamic clerics.
