The governor of Kebbi state,  Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has approved the release of N28 million for the payment of registration fees for  40 Kebbians admitted to the Nigerian Law School for the May, 2024 backlog, Bar Part II programme.

This gesture of goodwill was sequel to the approval of the Council of Legal Education for the May, 2024 Law School admission.

The state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Junaidu Bello Marshall  disclosed this in a statement he issued in Birnin Kebbi  and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Tuesday.

He  noted that the kind  gesture demonstrated the governor’s  goodwill and commitment to taking the state to  greater heights.

Marshall further announced that Dr. Idris has earlier approved N27.5 million for the payment of registration  fees  for 38 Kebbi state indigenes for the January, 2024 Law School intake.

The commissioner added that the governor also approved N45 million for all the Lawyers in the Ministry of Justice to attend the forthcoming Nigeria Bar Association’s National Conference scheduled to hold in August, 2024, in Lagos state.

Similarly, Dr. Idris has approved the sponsorship of seven Lawyers from the Ministry of Justice  for a Master’s degree programme (Master in Law Enforcement and  Criminal Justice) at  the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Marshal noted that  this  was in addition to the seven lawyers earlier enrolled by Dr Idris.

‘Additionally, the governor has graciously approved the process of reviewing the Kebbi state Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2021; Kebbi state Child Rights Law, 2021 and Kebbi state Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2021.

This is with a view to amending  the laws to be in line with the requirements of the National Policy on Justice Sector and international best practices.

The review will involve all the critical stakeholders, including the UNICEF and religious leaders.

It is  interesting to note that Dr. Idris has also forwarded an Executive Bill to the Kebbi state House of Assembly for consideration and passage of Kebbi state Water Users Association (Establishment) Law 2024.

This is with a view to satisfying SPINE requirements for irrigation farming in the state.

It is part of the efforts of the governor to ensure that Kebbi state satisfies the World Bank requirements for the programme scheduled  to hold in  September 2024’ the commissioner added

In another development, Comrade Nasir Idris has given an approval through the Justice Sector Reform Team of the State, for the connection of solar-powered system at the Federal High Court, Birnin Kebbi; Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division; Special designated Courts at JSC complex and the High Court of Justice complex, among others.

He disclosed that Dr. Idris has further approved the renovation of State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, renovation and furnishing of the Legal Aid Council office, Birnin Kebbi office and the repair of their operational vehicle.

The commissioner, on behalf of the students and the  staff of the Ministry of Justice, commended the governor for his magnanimity.
