LG Elections: Abia LP ‘Fubaraed’ As ZLP Wins 15 Chairmanship Seats
One of the opposition parties in Abia State, the Zenith Labour Party, has suddenly become a popular party in the state following the development that was recorded in the God’s Own State on Saturday.
In the local government elections held in Abia State on Saturday, the ruling party in the state, the Labour Party, failed to win any seat while the ZLP won 15 out of the 17 chairmanship seats .
The Young Progressive Party (YPP) won 2 chairmanship seats.
Announcing the election results, Chairman of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. George Chima, thanked the winners as well as the losers, while urging them to promote the spirit of sportsmanship.
He also commended the security agencies and other stakeholders in the state for a job well done.
‘We have carried out the duty we were inaugurated on September 5 to undertake.
It was not an easy task, but we went out on our way to create awareness about the elections across the state.
It must be noted that, in recent times, this commission has not conducted an election where over 12 political parties took part, this on its own is a plus to the commission’ George Chima, submitted at the
commission’s headquarters in Umuahia.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the state governor, Mr. Alex Otti has simply made use of the strategy adopted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State last month ahead of the local government elections in the ‘Treasure Base of the Nation’.
Recall that though Fubara’s party , the PDP is the ruling party in the state, the local government elections held in the state on Saturday, October 5, 2024, however produced Action Peoples Party as winner of 22 chairmanship seats while the Action Alliance got one seat.
Fubara had done this because he is not in control of the party structure in the state, and he had to find a way out of the difficult situation.
Abia State LP has also been divided into two camps with one loyal to Governor Alex Otti while those in the other group are loyal to the Julius Abure- led National Working Committee.
The governor’s loyalists were according to a source asked to leave LP for the ZLP ahead of the LG elections.
