Students at the Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH), Esa Oke, are not allowed to wait around idly without purpose either on campus or off campus despite being tertiary students who have freedom over their schedule.
Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Lateef Raheem, has submitted that this was one of the measures taken to ensure that students at the institution remain focused and disciplined.
Dr Raheem, who reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining an enabling environment for learning and ensuring that students adhere to established rules and regulations, also submitted that students at the College are not only expected to adhere to the specific rules but also noted that being an institution that has a ‘school uniform’ , loitering is not allowed during school hours.
‘If found outside campus, they are required to provide a valid reason for their presence’ he said.
While disclosing that the institution’s robust security network has helped to prevent cultism on campus, he also said pregnant students are not allowed at the college.
He added that a pregnant student would earn a temporary suspension and allowed to return to campus after delivering the baby.
‘Upon her return, she will resume classes with the subsequent academic set. This policy is aimed at upholding discipline among the students’ he said.
Dr Raheem also asserted that the passage of an autonomy bill by the Osun state House of Assembly made him become the first substantive Provost of the 47-year-old institution-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
