Man Arrested For Stealing N290,000 From Co-Passenger At Lagos Airport

A middle-aged man has been arrested by the Aviation Security officers and handed over to the police at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos for allegedly stealing N290,000 belonging to a co-passenger, who is a foreigner.

They were onboard an Ibom Air flight on Wednesday and he had stolen the money from the foreigner’s luggage in the aircraft’s overhead compartment.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the incident occurred before the flight’s departure from Lagos to Abuja and the suspect was subsequently deboarded and taken into custody.

An eyewitness, who was onboard the aircraft, said the incident occurred at 7:00 a.m. as boarding was being finalized while adding that the foreigner in question had raised an alarm after discovering that N290,000 in cash was missing from his luggage.

The cabin crew promptly intervened and began investigating and another passenger claimed to have seen the suspect while touching the foreigner’s luggage without permission which he however denied.

The missing money was eventually found on the suspect after another observant passenger suggested a body search, the money was discovered hidden in the suspect’s socks, and beneath his seat cushion.

Spokesperson for Ibom Air, Annie Essienette, who has confirmed the incident, also noted that the suspect is still in police custody.

‘Yes, the incident is true, and the timely intervention of both the crew and security operatives helped to restore calm immediately. The suspect was handed over to the police.
