Man Dies In Benue While Trying To Rescue 15-Year-Old Son From Well

A middle-aged man, Mathew Ekpengbe, and his neighbour have reportedly died while trying to rescue Mathew’s 15-year-old son who had fallen into a well.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the incident happened on Saturday in Oju town, Oju Local Government , Benue state.
The late Ekpengbe, a carwash attendant, had reportedly sent his son to fetch water from the well and the young boy had fallen into the well in the process.
This has come barely two weeks after a similar incident was recorded in Kwara state .
49-year-old Fasasi Azeez, had died in Offa local government, Kwara state last month while trying to rescue his son, Khalid , who had fallen into a well.
Mr Ekpengbe Mathew, who was said to have seen his son fall into the well, had rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue him.
Mathew had also asked his neighbour to join him in rescuing his son and sadly they all lost their lives in the process.
‘The boy went to fetch water but lost the fetching bucket in the well and in an attempt to retrieve the bucket, he slipped and fell into it.
His father saw what happened and immediately called a neighbour to join him in rescuing his son from the well. Unfortunately, both of them also ended up falling into the same well.
Bystanders who were alarmed by what happened, rushed to the scene to rescue the three of them, but none made it out alive. They were all dead when they were brought out of the well, which has been serving the people of that area for a long time’ said a source.
Confirming the incident , spokesperson for the Benue state Police command, Anene Swuese, said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
‘The incident was reported to the police, and we have commenced an investigation into the matter. I cannot give further details now’ Swuese said-Team@orientactualmags.com
