March 18: INEC Needs To Redeem Its Image –IPAC..No Cause For Concern, Lessons Already Learned-INEC

Ahead of the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections scheduled to hold on March 18 ,there is a need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to redeem its image , the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and  the Yiaga Africa , submitted on Sunday.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned the National Chairman of IPAC, Yabagi Sani and the Chairman of the Board of Yiaga Africa, Hussaini Abdu said this on Sunday night while appearing on a Channels Television’s political programme.

Abdu expressed disappointment over the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV)’s failure during the presidential and National Assembly elections held last month.

He accused INEC of not being forthcoming in respect of why the portal failed.

Abdu said INEC must design a strategic plan on what to do when something goes wrong, adding that the electoral umpire must do a self-auditing of the presidential election to know what actually went wrong.

National Chairman of IPAC also alleged that INEC was not telling Nigerians the truth about BVAS, arguing that there should be a backup if a case of failure is recorded.

He likened INEC to a Titanic with a lot of promises which however crashed on its first voyage.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has however submitted that there was no cause for concern saying lessons had been learned from the presidential and National Assembly elections held last month.

The commission’s National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, who appeared on Seun Okinbaloye’s Sunday Politics on Channels Television, noted that the ‘valuable lessons’ learned would guide INEC in the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections.

He said serious efforts were being made to rectify challenges with the Results Viewing Portal (IReV) ahead of the elections in question.

Okoye added that the ICT department of the commission now knows what to do if there are issues with the uploading of polling unit results on the IReV portal in the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections that will hold on March 18 .

It will be recalled that INEC had ahead of the 2023 general election introduced new technologies; IReV and the BVAS .

Opposition parties had after the presidential and national assembly elections held last month, condemned the manual collation of results and the announcement of winners.

Okoye , who also said results of the presidential and National Assembly elections in over 170,000 polling places have been uploaded on INEC’s IReV, added that the reconfiguration of the BVAS would be completed on Tuesday in preparation for the elections that will hold on March 18 .

‘I’m sure that by Tuesday when we hope to complete the resettling of the BVAS for the purposes of the governorship and state assembly elections, the results in all the places where elections were conducted would have been pushed to the accreditation backend’ he said- Team@orientactualmags.com
