May Day: Gov Idris Restates Commitment To Welfare Of Kebbi Workers, Calls Them ‘Invaluable Partners’

The governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, the Kauran Gwandu, has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers in the state and the protection of their rights and privileges.

Governor Idris emphasized that workers are invaluable partners in the development of Kebbi State and remain critical stakeholders who cannot be ignored.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted that he said this while giving his speech during the event held to mark the 2025 Workers’ Day at the Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, on Thursday.

Describing the May Day celebration as an important occasion, the governor commended the workers for their dedication and the remarkable contributions they have made to the progress of the state.

‘Your dedication, hard work, and perseverance are the backbone of our economy. I commend you for your tireless efforts’ he said 

As a former unionist, Governor Idris acknowledged the challenges the workers are facing and assured them of his administration’s resolve to address those issues.

‘We are committed to protecting your rights and privileges.

 We recognize the vital roles you play across various sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and security’  he said.

The governor also appreciated the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their steadfast advocacy for the welfare of workers emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration to build a brighter future.

He urged the workers to remain dedicated to their duties and continue to drive the development of the state.

Governor Idris used the occasion to talk about his administration’s achievements, which include the implementation of the new national minimum wage, payment of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits to retirees, and the completion of the ultra-modern Secretariat complex, among others.

Earlier in his remarks, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Murtala Usman, expressed appreciation on behalf of both the NLC and TUC for the governor’s outstanding attention to the welfare of workers and their well-being.

He commended Governor Idris for the timely implementation of the new national minimum wage, an action that has placed the state above over 20 states in the country.

Comrade Usman lauded the governor’s continued support for the workers, describing his presence at the 2025 May Day celebration as expected, given his background as a veteran and top-notch unionist as well as a former labour leader.

He also listed the achievements of the state’s labour unions,  to include the protection of workers’ rights, constructive engagement with government, inclusive representation, lawful advocacy, and the recognition of workers’ contributions.

Highlights of the event include the presentation of an ‘Award of Excellence’ to Governor Idris by the Kebbi State chapters of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Nurses.

The State NLC leadership also presented awards to distinguished individuals for their contributions to the development of Kebbi State.
