Young people in Kwara state have been urged to attach importance to honesty, hard work and integrity and ensure that these are made to guide them in making decisions in respect of their daily activities, and their dealings with the people.
Speakers including school proprietors, academics, and legal practitioners said this during the mentorship programme held in Ilorin, Kwara state on Friday.

The programme called ‘Career and Mentorship Breakfast Meeting’ was held at the Fabbies Hall, Pipeline area, Ilorin.

Proprietor of Socrates Group of Schools, Ilorin, Dr Abdulrahman Adetunji , who gave a Keynote Speech titled ‘The Key Ingredients To Succeed In A Chosen Career’ noted that ‘nothing good come easy , hence the need for ‘determination’ as a tool to succeed ‘in your chosen career’.

Adetunji also disclosed that he had decided to use himself as ‘a practical instructional material’ ‘to drive home his point through the application of didactic stories to stimulate the audience so that they can be well -guided’.

Dr Abdulrahman Adetunji listed requirements to succeed in chosen career or business to include: vision, determination, courage, and ability to take risks.

‘Vision: You need to be visionary, set out a clear vision and mission before starting anything at all. This will serve as a guide to you even if things are not going your way, your vision will guide you, as I was guided by vision throughout my academic pursuits, despite my poor background.
To choose a course in the university, you need vision
To become a successful civil servant ,you need vision
To site a business entity and be successful, you need vision, and as a Corps member, to demand for relocation from your primary assignment, you need a clear vision and mission.
The take home lesson here is that you don’t embark on a mission without a vision.
To succeed in your chosen career you need determination like a child who did the unimaginable to succeed where her elder siblings had failed. The take home lesson here is that you need determination to succeed.
To succeed in your chosen career, you need courage like a shoemaker who bought already declared non-productive gold-mine but turned it into a multi-billion dollars business hub. The take home lesson here is winners never quit.
To succeed in your chosen career, you need to take an unimaginable risk like a Commander who led a battalion of soldiers to a war expedition in another country, despite the uphill challenges before him, he fought with the last pint of blood in him to win and conquer. He returned home in triumph with his soldiers along with booty of war. The take home lesson here is; take your destiny in your hands as I did when I wanted to start the school business.
To succeed in your chosen career, you need to endure like an Insurance Man, who toured several states for several months without selling a policy, yet he kept going until he became a successful broker and eventually became a millionaire. The take home lesson here is never give up
To succeed in your chosen career, you need to carry out feasibility studies, before sitting or localizing your industry like a provision seller who turned already declared non-profitable business into a successful business hub and to the admiration or contemplation of the former owner. The take home lesson here is, be innovative and be a good listener
To succeed in your chosen career, you need to be bold and courageous to face all challenges that come your way; the story of how I became a school proprietor suffices here. The take home lesson is never surrender leadership to fears.
To succeed in your chosen career ,you need to belief in yourself. The story of how I became the Students’ Union President at the Kwara state College of Education, Ilorin, in 1993 shall elucidate the philosophy of believing in yourself. The take home lesson here is never surrender leadership to mere intimidation.
To succeed in your chosen career you need to persevere, you need a lot of perseverance to succeed and attain greater heights. The story of how I earned my doctorate degree shall encourage the audience to be courageous to pursue their life time ambition without hindrance. The take home lesson here is never surrender leadership to intimidation.
To succeed in life you need to know yourself, identify who you are. You can only know these through adventurism, meditation, quality of people you work with, quality of friends you keep and the quality of books you read’ he said.
