Mojisola Meranda Breaks The Ceiling, Becomes First Female Speaker In Lagos
The new Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Mojisola Meranda, has under her belt, a special achievement-she is the first woman to head the state parliament.
Lagos State was created was created on May 27, 1967.
Meranda became the Speaker following the impeachment of Hon Mudashiru Obasa, during the plenary session held by the lawmakers on Monday.
The Clerk of the House, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, was also suspended indefinitely, while the Chief Whip, Mr Mojeed Fatai, was elected as the new Deputy Speaker.
Hon Mojisola Meranda, who became a member of the House of Assembly in 2015, represents Apapa Constituency I, she was born in August 1980.
Hon Mudashiru Obasa , who won a sixth term in March 2023, had on June 6,2023, gotten elected as Speaker for the third time.
