Monday Arijo: Ogun Govt Delegation Visits Bereaved Family, Says Culpable Teacher, Principal Already Suspended

Ogun State Government has sent a delegation to pay a condolence visit to the family of Monday Arijo, an SS 2 student at Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-Emi , who died a few days ago, while being punished for making a joke of the instruction given by a teacher in respect of a wastebasket.

The teacher in question had since been suspended by the state government and also gotten arrested by the police.

Members of the delegation were received by the Arijo family who expressed their grief and shock at the sudden loss of their child while the delegation presented a condolence letter and a cash gift of N500,000 to the bereaved family on behalf of the state government.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s  Chief Press Secretary ,Mr Lekan Adeniran, who disclosed this in a statement he issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday, noted that the visit was to offer condolences to the Arijo family and express the Ministry of Education’s sympathies while also getting first-hand accounts of the incident for a thorough investigation.

The state government has also announced temporary closure of the school.

‘The decision to shut down the school was based on the directive of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, who has also directed that a panel should be set up to investigate the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.

The governor has promised that those liable by the outcome of the investigation will be made to face the full wrath of the law’ he said.

Members of the delegation include the Director, the Secondary and Higher Education Department in the ministry, the Principals General,  Egba and Yewa Divisions, the Zonal Education Officer, Imeko Afon, representatives of ANCOPPS, Ogun State President, Trade Union Congress and the Ogun State Chairman of ASSUS.

The statement noted that the principal of Obada Grammar School, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, who was earlier issued a query for allowing  the student to get subjected to a corporal punishment against the established rules and regulations in the state, has also been suspended.

The Principals General, Egba and Yewa Divisions and the Director of Education, Secondary and Higher Education, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, expressed their heartfelt condolences while assuring the family of the support of the state government  during this challenging time.

They also assured the family that a thorough investigation would be carried out  to determine the facts surrounding the incident while restating  the government’s commitment to ensuring safety of learners, and creating a more supportive school environment.
