Moshood Bakare Laments Worsening Security Situation In Ifelodun LG, Calls For Urgent Action

A former member of Kwara State house of assembly, Hon Moshood Bakare has lamented the worsening security situation in Ifelodun local government and the growing climate of fear in Omupo and Igbaja areas while calling for urgent action.

In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Sunday, Hon Moshood Bakare demanded immediate and sustained action to restore safety and confidence in ‘our land’ and ‘a robust and permanent security presence in vulnerable areas of Omupo, Igbaja, and surrounding districts’.

‘I rise today not just as a former representative of the people of Ifelodun, Omupo, and Igbaja, but as a deeply disturbed Nigerian whose heart aches for the communities now living under the shadow of terror. We have witnessed a chilling incursion by bandits, an audacious display of violence that saw the revered Ojibara of Bayangan, the Head of the Community, kidnapped, and multiple citizens in Memudu shot and abducted. This is a profound and unforgivable failure of governance.

The core social contract is unambiguous: citizens trade compliance for security. When we vote, when we pay taxes, we are investing in the guarantee that the government will uphold its primary duty the protection of life and property. Yet, what is the reality in Ifelodun LGA today? Bandits and criminals are operating with such an impunity, kidnapping traditional leaders and terrorizing innocent families just kilometers from major towns. This level of unchallenged criminality signifies that the contract between the governed and the government has been dangerously broken. Our people are experiencing a severe vacuum of authority, where the only power they feel is the deadly menace of a bandit’s gun.

For too long, our communities have been forced to adopt a horrific, debilitating survival strategy: silence. They live in constant fear, whispering their anxieties and hoping that their invisibility will be their shield. The silence that has descended upon our villages is not a sign of peace; it is the most damning evidence of a society where security has collapsed. It is a calculated, desperate measure taken by people who have lost faith in the system designed to protect them. They choose silence because they believe that speaking up will only invite greater violence, and that the state will not be there to defend them when the reprisal comes. Silence has become their survival strategy.

This must end. We cannot allow our citizens to be left alone, abandoned to the mercy of reckless bandits and criminal elements. To the relevant authorities at the Local, State, and Federal levels, I ask: Where is the intelligence? Where are the rapid response teams? Where is the decisive presence that is meant to deter these enemies of the state? The time for task forces and committee meetings is over. The time for empty condemnation and vague reassurances has passed.

I, Hon. Moshood Olanrewaju Bakare, demand immediate and sustained action to restore safety and confidence in our land: a robust and permanent security presence in vulnerable Areas of Omupo, Igbaja, and surrounding districts; immediate investment in local intelligence networks to identify, track, and neutralize these criminal elements before they strike; and a comprehensive plan to rescue abducted persons, support the victims and families of those kidnapped or wounded.

Our people deserve to live freely, to farm their land, and to sleep soundly without the dread of a midnight raid. They must not be forced to choose between speaking up and staying alive. I urge the government to break this cycle of fear by fulfilling its sacred obligation to protect every Nigerian life. Action today is the only way to restore the hope and dignity of our communities’ he submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
